How To Use iSync With Unsupported Nokia Phones
After switching to a Mac, I realized that the Nokia PC Suite that came with my Nokia N93 only runs on Windows. Keeping my calendar and address book up to date is crucial, so the hunt for the Mac equivalent led me to the mactomster iSync plugin.
UPDATE April 13th, 2007 Nokia released their own plugins. Check http://nokia.com/mac
Download the mactomster iSync plugin.
It’s all about bluetooth, so you no longer need the USB cable attached to the phone to sync with the computer. The plugin, however is only for the calendar and address book. In order to install games, applications, or import videos and photos, I have to switch into File transfer mode in the N93.
The Nokia phones supported by his plugin are: E50, E60, E61, E70, N71, N72, N73, N80, N91, N92, N93, 3250, 5500 sport, 6131, 6233, 6234.
Installation is simple:
Drag the yellow icon to the red icon.

Make sure Bluetooth is ON in your phone.

Open iSync and choose ‘Devices > Add Device.’ Double-click the phone once it is found.

That’s it!

UPDATE: Looks like you no longer need this guide! The latest beta of Parallels recognized my Nokia N93 just by connecting my phone.

C3 on 2 October 2006:
The mactomster_iSync-Plugin_2.6 still does not work with the E70-2. Nokia must do better when releasing smart phones. Nokia must know the the PC-suite is worthless to 1/2 its customers.
Also while I’m at it how come Park WI-FI does not have app’s written for all Nokia’s wifi phones?
Mark Guim on 2 October 2006:
Hi C3, I agree that Nokia must release a Mac suite, because it now takes more time to install apps or import pictures and videos from the phone.
I also haven’t tried wifi yet, but I never bothered because I’m already happy with the EDGE speed I get from T-Mobile here in NY. It’s true that Park Wifi only has apps for three phones, but can’t any device detect the free access point and use it?
Mark Guim on 3 October 2006:
LLahsram from Hofo shares how he was able to do it with his Nokia E70-2:
1. Downloaded the 2.6 version of the mactomster plug-in.
2. Created a new folder called “PhonePlugins” in my Library folder inside my user home folder.
3. Copied the “mactomster.phoneplugin” file into the PhonePlugins folder.
4. Edited the Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist file inside the mactomster.phoneplugin bundle and did a find-and-replace, changing all instances of “E70-1″ to “E70-2″.
5.Opened the Bluetooth panel in System Preferences, went to the Devices tab, and chose “Set Up New Device”, following the prompts as normal.

Great post! I installed all on mac pro with intel and nokia N73. No problem.
Mark Guim on 21 October 2006:
suerossi, it looks like the mactomster link was moved. I edited it to now point to the current address.
suerossi on 23 October 2006:
thanks for updating the link Mark. Unfortunately I dowloaded as per all the instructions but my Isync is still telling me that it doesn’t support the Nokia 6131. Does anyone know what might be going wrong? I even did the ‘add new device’ set up.
Mark Guim on 23 October 2006:
Hmm… sorry I don’t have a 6131 to test. I hope a reader here with a mac AND a 6131 have something to say.

Have you tried to use your N93 as a 3G modem via bluetooth on your mac?
I’m about to upgrade phones and know that the P990 will work this way but have no experience on the nokia side???

Mark Guim on 26 November 2006:

I downloaded the file for my 3250 but there was no red or yellow icons, just a folder. I went on iSync and it said it couldn’t find any devices, i HAD turned my bluetooth on.
Help?!
Marc Orchant on 6 January 2007:
Thanks for the tip! My brand new N93 is synced up with my MacBook and I am one happy camper. At the risk of sounding preachy, if you do find the mactomster iSync plug-in useful, please send the developer a donation via PayPal. He’s solved a huge problem for us Mac folk.

I have a rather odd Nokia model, the 6265, only available in latin america and asia. How can I use this trick to sync it with my mac?
John M on 11 January 2007:
I am having the same trouble as Eskr above. I did copy the file folder to my main library. My N93 is paired to my Macbook. I am able to transfer files without a problem and iSync did find my phone. However when I try to sync I get the following message:
Thursday, January 11, 2007 9:44 PM
[NOKIA N93] An unexpected error occured.
Device “NOKIA N93″ synchronization failed
What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do?
Thanks!

Nadir on 26 February 2007:
Hi Everyone,
I am in a bit of a mess here - bought the 6300 based largely on the fact that it was listed as a supported series 40 device on Mactomster - but keep getting the Isync message “Nokia 6300 This device is not supported by Isync”
Basically I am jiggered.
If there is any process I have not followed (I cant imagine which) please do let me know. the perplexing thing is the installation guide says “copy …. with Apple C……” can anyone shead some light on what that means ? I cannot figure it out.
Thanks PLEASE help !!!!

Stef on 26 February 2007:
I have the same problem as a few of the above posts -I can’t see any red or yellow icons only a green one. I’m trying to sync a Nokia N72. Please help!!!
Nadir on 26 February 2007:
Hi Stef and others having the same problems. There might be a solution - but unfortunately its not MacTomster at this point. I have mailed that fine gent and hope to hear from him in reply - but failing that, I have set a cut off for the end of this week before I go get a solution from Nova Media for 16 or so Euros
PLEASE CHECK THIS URL :
http://www.novamedia.de/sync/index.html
They appear to be a very good company and I am thinking that if I cannot get a solution from MacTomster I would go ahead and spring for their commercial plugin. The only thing that worries me is that it is guaranteeing support for Isync 2.3 - what happens thereafter is a big question. They commit to support for 1 year but i have no experience on how long it would take them to get an updated driver out INCASE the next version of isync threw everything out of sync again. Still there is a possiblity that the next version of Isync might actually support the phones we have - so its really a guessing game. BUT at 15 or 16 euros - its acceptable risk.
Good luck and keep posting . If anyone finds a solution pl mail me on nadirkaranjia@mac.com thanks and good luck y’all

Have a look at the Apple discussion forum for a free plugin set (that has worked well for me with iSync 2.4 and a Nokia E70-2). It may be useful for a number of people heretofore out of luck.

Anyone know how to sync Nokia N95 with isync 1.5 (on OS 10.3.9)?

I found this guide (http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/04/20/how-to-isync-a-nokia-6300-on-mac-os-x/) on how to enable the Nokia 6300 in iSync on MAC, and it seems to work. I believe that the same idea can be used to enable other unsupported phones as well.
