Nokia N80 Firmware Update Now Available

The Nokia N80 was just added to Nokia’s Software Update list. This updates the firmware which should improve performance and/or add functionality. David aka N80 Geek tried the update on his Nokia N80 and reports that he no longer gets “out of memory” messages, but thinks it still might be too early to conclude. Read his update on the update for his experience.

hi there to all n80 users
let me first tell u this n80 phone sucks and is the worst phone i’ve ever come across. i recently updated to the latest firmware update version 5.x , everything looked good until i made a call from this phone, the earpiece was not working at all no sound from this piece of shit, loudspeaker and headphones working but earpiece fucked up.
i think the foremost firmwae version 3.x was much better than this one.

NSU run error and in middle of the update dead and kill my N80i easily ! don't update any more.
  • Hey Rahul,

Read your piece on the N80... damn... I almost thought I wrote that piece, it's so exactly what I've always been saying about the N80. In fact, it so scared me that I'll never again buy one more Nokia phone. These guys must've been on drugs when they designed this phone. I am now on my 3rd N80... had to swop it out for a new one everytime, and everytime something different not working. I have finally given up. The major problem however, are 3 things: Fools who call themselves "official reviewers" of phones. They spend 10 minutes with the phone, then give it a rave review. These phones are so complex (since they are what "computers should become"), that they need an indepth review in order to be of real service to the buying public. 2nd, young people out there amongst the buying public, who are not really fussy... sell them any crap with a fancy hook, and they are happy... instead of saying "fuck you Nokia, we will not take this crap lying down!!" This is actually why, instead of Nokia going bancrupt, they're increasing their market share. 3rd, we, the buying public, should launch a world-wide boycott of Nokia phones, because I have not heard one good thing said about them, especially the N-series. But we don't. I wonder why??? I must be the only one in the world who's decided to never buy Nokia phones again.

Nice to hear other people with as negative a review of this phone as me. What a complicated, poorly designed, overrated, underperforming, unhandy.... handy. Piece of shit... has slipped from my tongue on multiple occasions when talking about my Nokia. I have certainly become the second person who will never again frequent the shops of Nokia. Never again will I own a phone so utterly stupid and illogical as this pile of waste plastic. I only regret that I wasted company money on it and did not wait for the Iphone.

I'm a Nokia N80 user too. And my problem is exactly with rahul. Damn Nokia!
  • joseph
N80 is not for retarded,go and buy an easier phone....
  • Shad
Yeah I too am suffering with the same problem on Nokia...No sounds from earpiece since I updated the firmware to V5..Its really weird..Anybody has any solutions whatsoever?..Thanks in advance.
  • john
what are you guys saying ? i installed the latest fw (v.5) and it works well.

joseph is right. if you dont know how to use it, then do away with it. nokia paid R&D teams to come up with this feature packed phone and all you do is complain. they dont care about the small percentage of people who have bad tastes in life. go back to the earlier days and live with your less complicated phones.

    @Shad
about the earpiece, bring it back to nokia if it still has warranty. honestly, i dont get it why you guys are having trouble with it. maybe you just got a lemon phone. hope it works out with you.
  • Phiafly
Just updated my N80 firmware. No problems with the speaker. Works great and the firmware has made the phone run smoother. Stop your whinging. I think you people complaining have problems with the slide ribbon. N80 rocks.
  • JONY
HY.....EARPHONE PROBLEM IS THE 1ST PROB OF N80. AND THE REASON IS NOT THE FW BUT THE RIBBON INSIDE IT. THEY CALL IT FLEX CABLE.AND YOU HAVE TO CHANGE IT FROM NOKIA CARE. I DID AND THE PHONE IS NOW WORKING WELL.
  • All of you are dumb asses! N80 is a smart phone. It runs on Symbian OS 9.1 in series60 3rd edition platform. If you don't know the fastest growing platform in the world, you might probably say that this phone sucks. But in reality, when it comes to functionality and durability, all symbian-based nokia phones are the best in the world! You just dont know much about your phone you idiots and you are ignorant about symbian OS..
  • bassfreak
i dont kno y all the people are against N80!!! y people dnt switch to a normal phone if they cant handle a smart phone!! if u mess up with firmware....y r u blaming the phone for it...i also updated to 5.x...and its runnin smooth...

I recently upgraded to ver 5 , I haven't seen such major problems as disconnected earpiece, but the firmware really sucks! I wish I could revert to my old firmware.
For example: if you set your Messages settings to use Memory card ,then you cannot switch to "Mass storage" on connecting the USB cable as it gives you an error message.
The sleep mode also acts odd.
Can anyone show me a way to revert back to Ver 3 ?
  • N80User
I also have the problem with N80's earpiece after I upgraded to the latest firmware. It seems to be a common problem that every one has after upgrading to firmware v5. Can a buggy firmware screw up a hardware inside the phone like the FLEX Cable ??
  • Raistar82
I upgraded My N80 it Runs well.

Question N80 users. Is n80 have auto keypad lock?
Pls help me. thanks a lot.
  • Nii
    @ Raistar:

    menu>tools>settings>phone>security settings tab>phone and sim>autolock period

change the period from none to 1 or 2 minutes or however long you want the phone to wait before autolocking.
