The latest update to the Nokia N73 firmware is now available at the Nokia Software Update page. I recommend you not to touch your phone while it is updating or else you will kill the Nokia N73. That is exactly what happened to mbootag from HOFO.

started updating my N73 with NSU and like a idiot went to move my phone and the crappy plug for the usb cable lost connection for a second and killed my phone.

    To Tedd,

    Drawback in N73 is we cant revert back to older version of firmware once it is updated. so u need to hang on till the next stable firmware version.

    I am one of a thousand people that try to change the regular N73 to N73 ME firmware.
    So before start to update i read all the risk & the worth if success carefully.
    After knowing what will i do with my New N73 life, i choose to update it in the middle of the night due to local connection best speed just around 45kb.
    When the update begin i am shock & feel dizzy to know that till full update need 63.3MB,which mean i nead 5 hours to finnished it with 45kb speed.Don`t want to regret it by pressing cancel or unplug the usb i try to calm down and continued the update with a very hard feeling ofcourse.
    That night be my very very very loooong night ever,cant sleep all the night,felt sooooo unwell like people when breaking heart. ^_^ .Try to ease the feeling with my PS3,some comics & DVD movie with hope will felt sleep at least feel sleepy, but it dont work.The feeling going worse when in the 3rd hours of updating time.
    So with haste when to living room to check if anything still ok with the update.And Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit i found my comp self restart cause by short electric with mean the Internet connection also disconected.
    Watching that in front of my bed room door i felt all my body paralyze.With unhope,frustating and all complicated complication feeling for a second before i close my body to the computer.
    With carefully i pick my phone and check it.
    And Woooouwwwwwwwwwwwwww…………Lucky my phone still running like nothing happend.This is the 2nd weeks from the time i try to update my phone and it still run perfectly.
    That experience made me love my N73 soooo much cause it not made me to spend more mony for another new mobile & also teach me how to thanks and please with what i had, ^_^

    Xenno: its safe when get unplugged or computer restarts during the downloading of the update but once it has started the update procedure and its running between pc and phone its not safe at all it will die for sure.

    Updating of firmware takes 3 stages..first is checking your phone if it is connected secondly downloading the firmware and thirdly which is need to be careful is the updating process..your lucky because it happens during the downloading..during this stage, there is no communication between the phone and the pc.It is too risky for you to update your phone with that internet connection speed..

    its easy go to the Nokia webpage an press see if phones upgrade is available an instead of putting your phones proper code put in 539343 an press to check an it will say get it an then its easy to upgrade as using the nss suite it did not work on my N73

    I had upgraded my N73 to internet edition about a month back, based on the instructions on this site.

    My phone’s current firmware is 3.0638.0.0.43 and the product code (changed earlier to upgrade to IE) is 0539366

    On the nokia website, the latest version available for this product is the same firmware as I have. Is there upgrade available based on another product code?

    Also, what are the new features in the updated firmware (if available)?

    and when sending a txt it takes a full 2 mins and in that time my phone is frozen, and it also randomly rebots its self. Will updating solve these problems and if so which update should i install and how can i do so.

    My N73 does not open after i tried to update. For some reasons, in the middle of the update process, my phone’s connection to the USB of my laptop was lost. After that it won’t start anymore. My phone is fully charge.

    when i read all the problem when update n73, i think is better for us to tell nokia, to make update firmware more comfort, safety, and simply, i think is better to give us firmware like symbian files.. we only download new files firmware from internet to our pc, after that send that files to our mobile and install it without connect internet,simple like that. I think all of you agree with me,maybe we can give our opinion to nokia, because the big problem for install it is internet connection, for me it is big problem, because our internet connection in indonesia very very slowly and can dissconect suddenly, so that i really dont needs to update my mobile (n73)before i can gets way to update firmware with safety way not like now very risk for our mobile…

    The slow messaging is a nokia bug that appeared on my N80. Nokia released a quick-fix. You can download their ‘SMS Accelerator’ from nokia website.

    This program is supposed to stop the slow-down you are experiencing. (note: it didn’t work for me, but deleting the 1017 messages from my inbox, and 645 sent messages did solve the problem).

    As for crashing, I can’t help you.. if it does it during your slow-down, it may be solved at the same time as getting rid of the slow-down.

    There is a trick used on the N95, and N80, should work on N73.

    Turn off phone.
    Press and hold in: Green Call Button 7 button 3 button.
    Turn on phone (still holding the other buttons down).

    This does a pretty funky reset and had solved some near bricking situations on the N95 debranding attempts.

    note: I’ve also heard of Green 7 3 # in the same way - apparently this shows a “formatting” screen, but I have not tried this, and I didn’t like the sound of it. If anyone knows better please let me know.

    I thought I throw this in as no-one seems to be explaining NSS.

    this tells you step-by-step how to change the product code of an N95, the procedure is the same as N73, BUT the codes WILL BE DIFFERENT! I suggest google-ing N73 product codes.

    This worked a treat, a bonus was that it allowed me to get the latest firmware & fix my Bluetooth connection problems to my GPS reciever, Nokia had not released the firmware that had the fix for this problem for my phone.

    I know have a N73ME which works with my Route 66 GPS unit.

    I just updated my N73 Black edition
    V3.06 RM 133 (India) to V 4.07
    Here are a my experiences-

    Imporverments Noticed!–

    1. RAM management is better, Sometimes keeps terminating Apps in background;But Much better better than before no Doubt !

    2.All photos now zoom upto 800 %, Zoom is smoother and stable.

    3. Whole gallery feels much faster

    4. Camera startup is much faster and Stable too! Flat in 4 seconds, 6 seconds first shot to be exact!

    5. 19 MB free ram on BOOT.

    6. Low light images far better. Just use ‘night potrait’ mode

    Actually, Whole phone is Pleasingly faster and stable!

    Annoyances/ Bugs left out in this Firmware- (Nokia ! Please listen Carefully!)-

    1. I read somwhere on the internet that this Firmware brings Search 4.0. However what I got was a very stupid Web search! I un-installed this app instantly as its pretty useless.I downloaded the Search 4.0 from nokia site, but it threw up and Incompatiblity error.

    3. There is High-pitched whine (Whistle like) when Mobile is connected to my 8 Channel speaker using 3.5mm Jack. This is simply disgusting!

    4.The uninstall links for ALL apps and THEMES on the memort card are gone! its so difficult to un-install those themes now!

    6. I’ve lost quite a few Apps that were installed. Thebackup coul’dnt restore them.

    7. there is a slight diffrence between Autofocus sound and actual focus.
    Similarly, there is disparency between Actual shutter release and Shutter sound.Sound comes before action. This problem was not present on older firmware.

    8. The RAM still leaks a lot. It falls down to 8~9 MB after using a few apps and quitting them.

    9.Sequence mode is still useless. It takes random number of shots and shuts down.

    10.large Images sometimes do not load in gallery, A small red cross appears instead.

    11.More noise in viewfinder, Final results are better tough.

    12.Graphic Equalizer messed up. All presets are shown as ‘Flats’ no matter what the effect.

    World-known (in)Famous stupidities by nokia-

    One minute time limit for audio recording

    One hour Video recorder limit no matter free space.

    Unable to use LED light as torch (Oh come on!)

    (Horror! Horror!)
    Unable to share .sis , .jar, Ringtones and Music(Mp3 and WAV) through bluetooth!
    And yes, Nokia still has the tag ‘Connecting people’ and ‘Sharing redifined!’
    Heck ! I can’t even send some of my tones to my friend! Very GOOD Dear nokia ! (Pun Explicitly intednded!)

    i got v4.0726.2.0.1 on my n73. i took my phone in and only paid R90 for the upgrade it is far more safer then updating it yourself with the computer as they are responsible for any damage to your phone. but people it is only R90 im sure yourl all can afford it i mean yourl got one of the best phones on the market. the new software is good i am enjoying it and recomend all n73 owners to get it, it makes the phone run much faster then b4 and does not reboot wen 3D tones and say callers name are on i have yet to find a problem with this software and i’ve got it for 6 months now……

    my nokia n73 music edition suddenly decided to say the sim wasnt registered. i did my reseach and found that by updating my software i can mayb fix this problem. i cannot make calls or txt at the moment and wud like to know does annnyyyyyyyyone know what the latest version of software is and how do i download it and where from?

    I have a problem, i have a nokia n73me and it crashed and “locked” my sim card and then changed the security code :/

    I was using SuperBluetooth Hack at the time it crashed…and the problem now is that it says first invalid sim card and then it says enter security code…but the code has changed, it’s not the original security code and it’s not my old code eather…

    Dose someone know how to crack the code??
    I know there are some kind of “master codes” that starts with “#pw+….” and so on but i can’t find 1 that would work :( can someone help me??

    guyz i just updated my N73 software, but unfortunately it failed…i dont know the reasons y but the worst scenario is that my N73 wont start up anymore..it says that the “phone start-up failed, try to contact your retailer”

    Ur Firmware looks to be old.. Its better to update it. Download the firmware from website. Use only high speed internet like DSL, Cable connections to update it..

    Since Dail-up connection is slow less than 256kbps, it causes interruption. so while updating, if update process interrupts, ur phone will die( goes to Zombie state ).. wherein u have to start from the scratch.

    If u dont have DSL or cable, get ur mobile to Nokia care and do an update as suggested. it will cost u very less amount..

    do not install too many applications which might slow down the processing speed of ur phone..

    Do not save ur SMS on to ur memory card, this will also slow down ur phone speed..

    I’ve got installed 7 times tomtom on v2.XXXX and v3.XXXXX : works great.
    Installed tomtom on v4.XXXXX and tomtom shows the screen in bleu(it’s not blue when i lock the phone)
