Software Update Nokia N93i Firmware Using a Mac
I used my Apple Macbook Pro to update the Nokia N93i to the latest firmware as of writing this entry, version 30.0.013, using VMware Fusion without any problems. As you may know, Nokia Software Update only works on Windows. If you are a Mac user, you get the benefits of both worlds by being able to run Windows on a Mac.

Nokia tries catering to Mac users by providing iSync plugins and the Nokia Multimedia Transfer in the Nokia Mac support page, but Nokia Software Update is still not available in Mac version. This is where desktop virtualization softwares like VMware Fusion comes in handy.
Are you a Mac and Nokia user? Let me know how you upgrade your phone firmware.

I upgrade the same way you do - Fusion is a remarkable product.

I have a Nokia e61i and a Macintosh iBook G4. How do I update my firmware? I don’t. I’ve occasionally checked for firmware updates at nokia.com, but I’m not sure that I’ll bother, as difficult as it seems to be.

I updated the firmware on my N95 using Parallels on a mac. Same principle, different software.
It took a couple of tries for the USB link to the phone to become visible but it worked perfectly after that.
I’ve also used Nokia maploader the same way without any problems.

@Hasik Not difficult at all, but I’m glad an Eseries user comes to this site, even though I rarely write about it. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to those phones.
Mark Guim on 15 October 2007:
@Colin I used Parallels before Fusion, but I read somewhere that Fusion is faster and had no problems with the USB connection to the phones I use.
@James Burland I agree and I love the Unity View feature.

I boot my MacMini into Windows Vista by using Apples Bootcamp to run the Nokia Software thats not available for the Mac OS.

I have Paralells with Windows XP, but so far I have not been able to connect my Nokia N95 using Paralells.
Booting into Vista works just fine, and I am also running Maploader this way.
