Navball: Interactive GPS-enabled Soccer Game
Bam! Mixing sports with a GPS capable phone?? What a freaking great idea!! Now mind you, growing up here in the States, I was never fond of soccer (aka “football”). For over 25 years I never gave the sport a chance, hell, I even refused to watch a single minute of a game. But, with the help of my buddies and an old Xbox, I grew to love the sport. (it’s all about Thierry Henry!) Now, while browsing around the interweb looking for soccer games for the Nokia N95, I ran across this radical sport called NavBall.
22 people running around dressed in brightly colored tee’s while forming a huge arrow that can only be seen via an aerial shot or gps while trying to “kick” a giant imaginary soccer ball into an even larger imaginary net?? Holy hell, what else could you ask for??!! NavBall, the sport of Gods!
Unfortunately, the event passed a few months ago and it was on the other side of the world. Oh well, we can only hope that this new sport comes to the States soon. I can imagine it now, 22 people running around the mean streets of NYC while clutching their precious (and expensive) smart phones. LOL, I would pay to see that!
Once again, us here in the States can only sit on the sidelines while our European friends basked in the glory of technology. Booo!! Never the bride, always the bridesmaid!!
