I previously wrote how to convert videos for Nokia Nseries phones, but now I’ve been using a better solution for Mac users with phones capable of playing excellent quality H.264 videos like the Nokia N93i, Nokia N82, and all versions of the Nokia N95. Step 1. Open up VisualHub and choose conversion to iTunes optimized for iPod. Also check the H.264 encoding option.

Step 2. That’s it! Just drag any video files into VisualHub and click Start. HUH?! That’s it? Yep, I told you it was simple.

Background

The Nokia N82, Nokia N95, and the Nokia N93i’s movie player, RealPlayer, can all handle video compresed with MPEG-4 AVC also known as H.264, which has become the preferred compressions for best quality and low file sizes. It’s also good to know that these devices can only handle the baseline profile under H.264. These properties are similar to the videos available for the iPods (not the iPhone).

All the converted videos will end in .MP4 extension. Someone may ask why I chose iTunes instead of MP4 tab. The reason for that is the H.264 checkbox under the MP4 tab will not support the Baseline profile, so it won’t be playable on the phone. You’ll hear audio, but just see a black screen.
