Nokia N95 Variation Guide for Newbies

If you are thinking of buying a Nokia N95, I suggest you take a look at the Nokia N95 Variation Guide compiled by JohnyBruha at Howard Forums. All variations of the Nokia N95 have a standard set of features that do not change from model to model like 5mp camera, GPS, wifi, etc. This chart will help you know which features separate them from one another. Thoughts

I have a suggestion and request for everyone including bloggers, buyers, and readers. Let’s get rid of the N95-1, N95-2, N95-3 names and use “8GB” or “NAM” instead to decrease some confusion.

  1. Good info. I agree that NAM and 8gb should be used. Maybe refer to them as “Euro”, “NAM”, and “8gb” which would further clarify it. Also.. many people in the US and Canada may still be potentially duped by seeing US/North American 3G if they are T-Mobile customers as not everyone knows about 1700/AWS. Its a wordy I know but NAM/8GB for AT&T/Rogers/Fido would be even more clear.

Thanks again for helping people sort this out. God forbit a N95-4 or -5 for T-Mobile..

  2. Nice article, I’ve never owned a Nokia, but have become intrigued by the N95. I used to own a treo 600, then a 650, and always was unhappy with the multimedia capabilities of the phone.

It’s been incredibly hard not to pull the trigger on the N95 NAM, but I’m holding out for the N95 8GB NAM. Thankfully this will coincide with waiting for Macworld in a few days.

    4 questions…

    1. Is the phone really as flimsy as I hear? There are reports that the slider’s neutral position doesn’t stick, and the front faceplate feels like it isn’t attached very well. (Also, there is a notion of it being overly plastic-ey, and not feeling like it’s a 700$+ phone).

    2. One of my favorite apps for the treo was PDANet, a program that lets you share your phone’s internet connection with a computer, in such a way that your cell provider sees it only as phone network traffic. (Not just normal bluetooth dial up networking)

    3. The treo, especially after you’ve loaded a few applications, tends to get a little more unstable as time passes. How stable is symbian OS? Any applications you would suggest staying away from?

    4. Any idea when you may start pre-orders for the N95 8GB NAM?

  3. Hey, Nokia has some design flaws and they are not issuing recalls. They are not admitting to it. See post on my web site: http://www.damon4.com/Default.aspx?blogentryid=108

  4. where can i find movie downloads for my nokia n95

  5. i have n95 but english version, can anybody tell me how to upgrade then can read chinesse word/chinesse version, before that thanks anyway.plz send to my mail.

  6. re: dextius : Having previously owned a Palm I have since become the owner of a euro N95-1. It does takes a little time to adjust to the nokia way of doing things but once that is out the way you’ll find that with latest firmwares the nokia N95 quickly becomes an essential piece of daily use hardware all the way from it’s excellent media player to the very serious blackberry connect and pdf reader software.

Compared to a trio the N95 is lighter and will seem to be slightly more fragile but this is by no means the case.

Do be aware of the hardware variations:
The N95-2 North AMerican version (NAM) has the card reader slot on the left hand side, 128 MB ram but no camera cover. IMHO this the best (in terms of hardware) However Nokia appears to be lagging badly with the very much needed firmware upgrade to version 21.0.0xx.

The second NAM version is the N95-4 (NAM) with 8GB and no card slot.
