the n95-3 and n95-4 are the nam models, n95-2 is the original european version of the n95 8gb

I am searching the market for an all in one device (unlocked quad band GSM phone, good camera, music and video player, PDA etc.) and stumbled acrossed the N95 8GB. In researching I’ve learned that there are V2, V3 and now V4. I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.

1. Does all 3 versions have internal memory of 8GB with version 2 and/or 3 having a card slot for more memory?

2. Can any of the versions connect to and access an external hard drive.

3. I’m assuming (we all know about assuming) that NAM means North American Model and that either versions (N95-2, N95-3, N95-4) can be purchased as a NAM — please confirm

i live in canada and im hearing there is like 3 versions to this phone the asian verion wich frequency isnt suported here in north america and the europian version made in finland that is for europe but cant use video calling here in north america and there is this NAM version im confused whats the differences and wich one sould i get isnt the ones made in finland the same thing as the nam can some one please explain to me id really apriciate it!

I agree with you. This N95-4 is not an improvement to the unlocked N95-3 because of the external memory that the N95-3 has! My phone takes a 8GB card pluss I have the internal memory. I love the larger screen on the 95-4 but would not give up my expandable memory for a slightly larger screen. I absolutly love my N95-3! This phone is so cool and if you go on the Nokia site you can download even more applications. I save everything on my memory cards so I can keep my internal memory for apps. that can’t be installed on memory cards.

No thanks Nokia, this is not an improvement over the N95-3. This is a step BACKWARDS! The N95-3 is infinitely expandable by being able to have as many 8GB cards as we want (I have 3 of them). That fixed 8GB, with no microSD slot for more expansion, is a stupid idea. If you’re stuck on the idea of thinking the N95 is “just a phone”, then sure you might think that 8GB is enough. You should be thinking of this as a convergence device though. Think of an mp3 player, a video player, a proper camera, a proper video recorder, and finally also a phone, then 8GB is less than impressive. Buy the N95-3 people!!! This is NOT an improvement!!

Hi Mark! Thanks so much for the update. I’ve been checking regularly to see what you have to say about the newest version of N95 for North America.

I have to admit tho… I’m disturbed about one thing. Practically speaking, the N95-4 ought to be different by SOME sort of physical characteristic. If Nokia didn’t add or omit anything to the outer hardware, consumers will have a difficult time differentiating it from the previous N95-2 (8GB NAM). How will transactions on eBay, craigslist, and Howard Forums take place? As an end-user myself, I can’t imagine purchasing a phone on blind faith that it indeed the N95-4 even though it LOOKS like the N95-2.

Looking forward to what the reviewers have to say about it’s physical details.

Yess! finally i knew we had to wait for the FCC to catch up. Now im guessing we have to wait another week or so till Nokia finally decides to start shipping. My hopes are now by the end of feb i should finally have one in my hand!
