Nokia N95 NAM - Where’s the Firmware Update?
I love my Nokia N95 NAM, but where the hell is the firmware update? Both the original Nokia N95 (N95-1 model) and the Nokia N95 8GB (N95-2 model) received speed performance improvements on their latest updates. The Nokia N95 8GB even added flash support in the browser so we can watch adult videos on the go. Come on, Nokia North America! What is taking you so long?!

To be technical, demand paging capability was added to the Nokia N95-1 and Nokia N95 8GB. The Nokia N95 NAM does not have demand paging which optimizes performance. The N95 NAM is not slow, but an update to performance would be nice.
Is it because Nokia is busy on working on firmware for the Nokia N95 going to be offered by AT&T? I would be disgusted if it’s true. I don’t want AT&T’s branding all over my phone.
I’m not the only one that is waiting anxiously for a firmware update on the Nokia N95-3. Jeremiah from Nokia Users is saying it is tough to be a Nokia North American fanatic. Ricky Cadden from Symbian-Guru is upset that the Nokia N95 8GB have already been updated more than once while his Nokia N95 NAM gets denied again.

Great to see your voice on this one, Mark. Us bastard N95-3 users have to stick together.
And, I believe, the N95-1 will play flash in the browser as well. I wouldn’t know- I sold mine to “trade” up to the N95-3 a few days before that firmware dropped. Now I’m sitting here with an unsupported device, pathetic lens protection and a bad taste in my mouth.
One point I want to mention though- I would in fact go so far as to say that the N95-3 is slow. It takes at least twice as long for my N95 to boot up as the N82 or the N95 8GB, it takes several seconds longer to fire up the camera app, as well as to get a shot off and processing of the image is painfully slow after spending so much time with those other devices. The gallery is also not the same animal with the N95-3- it doesn’t render thumbnails as fast, nor does it flip though the images fullscreen nearly as fluidly.
I’m thoroughly bummed today- every morning I connect my N95-3 in hopes of a firmware update that never comes, every morning I’m a little sad when I drink my coffee- today stung a little bit more seeing the N73 get ANOTHER update.
mike on 5 March 2008:
i bet your even more mad to find out the n73 just got another firmware update.
brian on 5 March 2008:
i would be seriously disgusted as well if at&t will get the n95. its going to be branded with their logo and its going to be a sad day when you can get the n95 for 199.99 before a 50 dollar mainl in rebate when you sign up for a 2 year contract.

Welcome to the world of the E-Series.
Nokia seems to be releasing more phones than it can handle… I have the Nokia E61/E61i/E90/E65 and E51 (Yeah, I know… I should have learned by now)… Tons of bugs and no software update. The last one was announced on Nokia’s web site 2 weeks after it was downloadable…. Pathetic!
All Nokia users unite!
Mark Guim on 8 March 2008:
Some people say Nokia is withholding the firmware update to the N95-3 so that we will upgrade to the N95-4 instead. Outrageous if true… but that’s what I’ll probably do.
Me on 3 April 2008:
Did anybody tried to insert the code of an N95-1?
Frank on 12 April 2008:
I’m exactly looking for information about that eventual firmware change from N95-3 (NAM) to N95-1
I moved to europe and my NAM is only working as 2.5g (GPRS) WCDMA is not supported here, just UMTS
I’m not trully confident of this eventual firmware replacement
Probably is hardware dependent
Any idea?
regards
F
Me on 12 April 2008:
I think that replacing n95-3 firm with n95-1 firm will not harm the phone but this experiment must try it a person with phoenix flashing experience because if you brick your phone there is no way that you can restore it with NSU
Me on 12 April 2008:
Frank did you said that you flash an n95-3 with the n95-1 firmware???
The phone is working?
Frank on 13 April 2008:
No I didn’t change it. I hope to find a way to do it.
Me on 13 April 2008:
I think you can do it inserting the product code of an n95-1 and flashing with NSU
rasika on 20 May 2008:
Hi frank,
I have the same problem, coz i my self moved to europe and i would love to use 3G.
have you tried flashing it? hope its not a hardware lock for the bands.
I saw a post here (below) on converting the N73-5 to N73-1, (non-3g to 3g). hmm interesting.

Frank on 20 May 2008:
I upgraded my N95-NAM from
V 10.2.006
22-08-07
RM-160
Nokia N95 (19.01)
With this FW http://europe.nokia.com/phones/n95
to
V 20.2.009
01-04-08
RM-160
(c) Nokia N95 (19.01)
And still the same, without 3G in Europe
I don’t know what is this “Phoenix Service Software 2007″ that is mentioned in that post
I used the standard USB cable provided with the N95
Any idea?
rasika on 20 May 2008:
did u change the product code to an N95-1 before update or did u just update using NSU (without any modifications)?
Phoenix SW is the service level software used by nokia.
Frank on 20 May 2008:
I just update the firmware without any modifications
F
rasika on 20 May 2008:
when i plug my n95-3, the latest available update is 11.2.009
i didnt get a 20.2.009 as you’ve mentioned on yours.
Whats your product code? so i could change mine to that and update.
Btw, since you havn’t flashed yours with n95-1 firmware, i don’t think that would change anything regarding to the n95-3 wcdma (3g) frequency. I did some research and it seems that n95-1/2/3/4 uses the same RF IC, but i cannot verify this without actually being brave enough to do it.
Frank on 20 May 2008:
I encourage you to do it
For the upgrade I just follow the link “Upgrade Nokia N95 software” in http://europe.nokia.com/phones/n95
rasika on 20 May 2008:
haha lol well i want to,
but before i do that i want to get all the facts straight.
whats your product code if you dont mind?
rasika on 20 May 2008:
your product code is located under the back of your battery
it should look like something equal to 0534861
Frank on 20 May 2008:
Could it be 0552415100703RB2 ?
rasika on 20 May 2008:
yup, thats it! your product code is 0552415. thanks!
just to confirm again, when you type *#0000# on your phone, whats the exact version and date shown there?
i’m sorry if i am bugging you

unfortunately i had to learn it the hard way.
does any one know how to restore it (either using phoenix or nsu) or does anyone know how to start a phone in BB5 ADL Loader mode?
my phone turns on, comes to the nokia screen and dies.
i really badly need your help now. PLEASE HELP.
i feel so stupid now
