    Lynne,

    I’m having problems with mine as well. It drop calls left and right, 3G is not stable and constantly switches back to GPRS. Also, I cannot update firmware, Nokia Updater cannot identify my phone :(
  • Lynne
    Mine has completely sucked since the day I got it!!!! It turns itself off all the time and drops calls constantly. I've sent it to Nokia twice for repairs and have updated the firmware and done a hard reset on it but it hasn't helped at all. I'm soooo pissed off and am two steps away from trying to file a class action suit against them as it seems there's quite a number of other people who have this problem... just fyi...

    hi can anyone answer me plz? is the nokia n95 made in Korea good?
  • Mo
    I was in India had a n95 8gb made from China I used it for 6 months sold it and came to Dubai looked all over & only found one store that had one last Finland one made so I picked it up again. I never knew they come with the full version of Asphalt 3 that you can install on the phone. In the China one you just have the trial version. For now that's the only difference in the box that I saw.
  • You all are lucky! I just got my Nokia N96 and it is Made in China! My N95 was from Korea.

    Does anyone know how to setup the VOIP settings on N95 8GB

    @Lynne, I apologize, I misspelled your name!

    To all who may be interested in how hot the phone can get, after a couple more weeks of use, I can't report anything out of the ordinary with normal use but ... I recently installed JoikuSpot Premium (it turns the phone's 3G connection into an 802.11g access point for wireless devices like laptops, etc). Well, I connected wirelessly to my phone through my laptop and was able to surf the web quite well (very good speed and connectivity). After about 15-20 minutes of use, my battery was depleted considerably and the back of the phone was VERY hot, to the point of being uncomfortable to touch. I think it had something to do with the rate at which the battery was depleted. That in addition to the two radios (3G/802.11g) constantly emitting probably did the trick.

    The good news is you can always tether to a laptop using the supplied USB cable and the Nokia PC Suite and tap your phone's 3G connection that way. Still, taking the wireless route is so much "hotter" (pun intended), to quote Ms Hilton.

    Lynn, don't listen to RiP's terror mongering, everyone knows those popcorn popping ads are a hoax. I just recently got my N95-4 and I haven't noticed much heat from it. Then again I probably haven't talked on it more than 10 minutes at a time. The rest of what he said sounds about right. The LCD is probably causing most of the heat with that backlight. I think it's supposed to turn it off when you put the phone against your ear since the light sensor should be blocked. Perhaps I'm thinking of a different phone though! :P Consider the bluetooth headset but if you REALLY want to play it safe, just use the ear buds that have the microphone on the cord itself.

    Regarding our earlier conversation, 3G is behaving pretty well so far. The signal is not that strong at home but voice quality is just fine near work (Irving, TX). Data throughput is a little erratic for some odd reason. It's a blast being able to make international Skype calls with Fring and not having to be on my laptop with that ridiculous headset!

    I have to say, this phone is out of this world amazing! I have yet to find something I was not able to do with it. My N80 served me well for 2 years and 4 months. Here's hoping this will do the same.

    Lynne, have you ever heard of micro waves? All you need is 3 N95s answering a call to pop a popcorn, or even fry your eggs for you. Go look up YouTube to see the health hazards of all these new quadband cellular phones. So, you realize that it gets hot? I'm glad you do, 'cause most people ignore that effect after long conversations with the N95, but I -- just like you -- do not. Another factor in the heat generation is the large LCD screen, its backlight, and the WiFi card inside (so you narrow out which one you are triggering or using the most). But back to the micro waves, if you want to maintain your health, just go ahead and use a stereo Bluetooth headset like I do. :)
  • Lynne
    Thanks for the input, I guess it's just a waiting game for AT&T to get their $hyt together then...
    Does anyone have any comments on or problems with how extremely hot the phone gets on the ear after only about 10 -15 minutes... I've never had this problem with any other phone ever, it's so weird!!!
  • Zaher
    Thank you , I changed my mind about it !
  • demetrios
    @Zaher
    This phone is the North American (or NAM) 3G version of N95 8GB, also known as N95-4. The European version is the N95-2 (which came first; ironically you're in the obverse situation that we were in when the -2 was out in Europe and Asia and we wanted it).

    @Lynne
    Sounds like the good old AT&T half-a** approach to implementation. They did the same thing back in the day when they switched from TDMA to emulated GSM. I was dropping calls left and right. They worked out the bugs about a year or two later. I don't think it will take as long with WCDMA/UMTS/3G. It's just a matter of ironing out the kinks and converting more towers (and a larger percentage of the tower's utilization) to 3G.
  • Andrew Leung
    Might be your sim card, try a friend's sim to see if calls work, i've had a couple of bad sims that needed to be replaced because my voice service as poor.
  • Lynne
    I got the works from AT&T for mine, but as soon as they put the 3G card in, all my media was super fast, BUT, now my actual reception completely sucks!!! I used to pride myself on what great coverage I got, especially prodding all my other friends with their Blackberrys and bad networks, but now it's them laughing at me... maybe it's karma :( either way, it's soooo frustrating. If anyone has any ideas or help, I'm eagerly open. Love this phone, but it's useless when I miss half my incoming calls...
  • marty
    I just got my n95-4. Will the MediaMax data plan of AT&T give me 3G data speed?
  • Zaher
    Do you mean that it doesn't work with European 3G ?? I really want to get this phone but I am not in the US . Thanks !
  • demetrios
    Regarding country of manufacture, do not confuse the new legit Korean N95s with the phony baloney imitations. The latter didn't have GPS or WiFi and had some other issues as well. It's hard to tell with those eBay and other online scammers but with Dell, CompUSA, etc, you should be safe. I would rather choose Finland over Korea as well but I don't think it matters these days. Plus, I believe Nokia has shifted N95 production to Korea as of a certain date so it's becoming moot .

    Good luck to all.
  • Serge
    I have both, and did not see any diffs in quality...yet :)
  • Lynne
    thanks for the input, both + & - with regards to the Korean quality sucking, may i ask which features you feel are most compromised on this version? i was so stunned to see "made in korea" when it finally arrived, but now i'm not sure if it's even worth it to go through the hassle to try and resell it and get a MIF version. thanks so much!
  • Me
    your are not well informed, there is a huge difference between de made in's quality
    Koreans ones sucks!
  • As far as i know i don't feel any drop in build quality between the phones made in finland vs the ones from korea.
  • Lynne
    I noticed my new one is made in Korea too, I was under the impression that the top of the line real Nokia N's were only made in Findland. Can anyone tell me if there's a real difference or did Nokia just change places for cheaper labor. I'd think that they'd stick with their own country of origin for their better models.
