How To: Quickly Spot The Difference Between The European Nokia N95 8GB (N95-2) And North American Nokia N95 8GB (N95-4)
The North American Nokia N95 8GB also known as Nokia N95-4 have hit the stores, but an uneducated shopper or a confused seller can easily mistake it from the European Nokia N95 8GB model. If you are in the United States on the AT&T network, you do not want to be stuck with the European model as it will give you much slower internet speeds. I found a quick way to spot the difference.

Nokia N95-2 versus Nokia N95-4. Check the back.
The difference is at the back without even opening the battery cover. Check what the camera lens label says.
- Nokia N95-2 (European): Carl Zeiss Optics Tessar 2.8/5.6 Autofocus 5 Megapixel
- Nokia N95-4 (NAM): Carl Zeiss Optics Tessar 2.8/5.6 AF 5 megapixel
Another subtle difference is that the part surrounding the lens on the Nokia N95 8GB NAM is more shiny. However, to be really sure, just open the battery cover and check the model number!

Can’t tell the difference from the front.

Thanks Mark, that was really useful information.

Mark,
How you liking the N95 8gb NAM so far? I love mine…I just installed the Ovi Share (http://www.twango.com/sendvcards.aspx)application on my phone and its pretty cool that it has the shortcuts on your homescreen.
Do you have any cool apps on yours?
Mark Guim on 11 April 2008:
@LAguy I absolutely love it too. The apps I like are qik, sportstracker, and mobireader. There are several cool apps but these are the ones that stand out for me.

Anybody willling to give me a n95?
Eric on 13 April 2008:
Sweet! So does this mean the N95-2 and N95-4 share the same housing and internal parts? (With a few cosmetic changes and radio freq) I am an owner of an N95-3 and can’t find any parts (housing, case, lcd). Not that I need a new housing or lcd screen. But I’d like to be able to fix/replace parts if I need too. I am thinking of making the move to an N95-4 hoping that parts will be available. Any thoughts / suggestions? Maybe I should have ordered an N95-1, Lol. (Couldn’t resist the US3g and battery)

Hmmm? I supposedly got my hands on a NAM variant but based on this post appears to be a euro variant (says “autofocus 5 megapixel” on lens). However, when I check for the latest firmware, I get that it’s current at v15.0.015.
I would love the new euro firmware with autorotate, but i’m being told that i’m up to date. So do I have a euro or a nam n95 8GB?
Mark Guim on 25 April 2008:
@BigD You work for Nokia… shouldn’t you know? The sure way to find out, like I mentioned on the post, is by opening the battery cover and checking the model number. N95-4 or N95-2.
