Live Vlog: Stream Live and Talk To Your Viewers With the Nokia Nseries

We’ve praised Qik several times here at the Nokia blog, and here’s yet another Qik post. On my way home, I started streaming live while driving and noticed a question popped out in my screen. I replied and a short live conversation proceeded! This is a feature that not many phones are capable of.

Drive Nokia N95 8GB

As I got back home, I decided to check out the video quality of the stream and I was impressed. Even while driving down the highway, the quality was pretty good.

I was using the North American Nokia N95 8GB (N95-4) connected to high speed 3G internet provided by AT&T in North America. A fast connection is necessary to keep the stream as close to live as possible. If you are in the United States and want to stream live from your phone, you’ll need either the Nokia N95 NAM (N95-3) or the Nokia N95 8GB NAM (N95-4) with an AT&T data plan.

  1. I can just imagine it now… In the event of an accident, they’ll check your Qik log to see if you were broadcasting at the time of the accident. Rich. : )

Seriously, Qik is pretty cool. I’ve asked them about higher quality feeds, and they said they’re coming. Apparently subscribing to your RSS feed from Qik will grab your higher quality videos than you’re able to embed.

They also said they were working on two way conversations, so you could respond to “web questions” from the device. I’d imagine that would look terrible to the viewers, while they’re staring at the palm of your hand during the reply…

Good stuff! This is an application that could not exist for normal end-users just a few years ago. Let’s hear it for 3.5G!

  2. two way text conversations doesn’t sound like a good plan. I think answering through the video itself is much cooler.
