Review: ProClip Car Mount Kit For Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia N82

I finally found the best car mount for our Nokia phones. It is the ProClip kit. I was already disappointed with cheap windshield mounts I bought from eBay as they kept falling off. The ProClip solution is specific to your car and device, so the fit is perfect. Take a look at my review.

Purchasing

Purchasing the kit requires you to buy a specific holder for your device and then a specific mount for your car. Instead of the generic ones where you adjust for different devices, each holder conforms to the specific shape of the device. ProClip’s website makes it easy to find the right parts you need using drop down selections.

I selected the holders for the Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia N82. I then selected the mount for Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000-2005.

Step 1: Select the holder for the device.

Step 2: Select the mount for your car.

Optional Clip. That’s your basic need above. If you want to easily change devices, you’ll want to get the Move Clip. Without the move clip, you have to unscrew and screw each time you change devices. The clip allows you to slide in or out different holders on one mount.

Optional Step 3: Move Clip lets you easily change holders on one mount.

The price is high compared to the cheap windshield mounts you can find from eBay.

Package

The kit comes in a package with the necessary screws and illustrated instructions. You’ll need 2 different sized screwdrivers. I don’t exactly know the sizes, but I’m sure you’ll have them lying somewhere in your house.

Installation

Installing the kit was a breeze. If you don’t like reading, don’t worry. The pictures are self-explanatory. The instructions even show pictures specific to your device and car! ProClip also provides the instructions in pdf format in addition to a printed one provided with your package. Take a look at the Mitsubishi Eclipse mount instructions for example.

Results

The mount is rock-on steady. It doesn’t shake or make rattling noises. The two holders perfectly fit the Nokia N95 8GB and Nokia N82. I was able to switch between devices very quickly. Since the mount is placed on my dashboard, the car charger easily reaches the phone if needed. I am also able to reach the phones if I ever need to press buttons while driving.

The view. I recommend getting the holder with the swivel because it gives you a better angled view at the display. Here is my view from driver’s seat.

The ProClip kit made me appreciate my Nokia N95 8GB even more! The 2.8in screen on my dashboard makes GPS navigation on a phone look really cool. I didn’t even notice how beautiful Nokia Maps look on landscape view until I installed the ProClip. It’s like the Nokia N95 8GB transformed from a phone into a navigation console when I entered my car and placed it on the dashboard.

Pros: Excellent quality and fit. No worries of the phone falling off. Thieves won’t notice you have a GPS navigation because they don’t see anything suctioned to the windshield.

Cons: A little pricey. I also think the Move Clip should be included with the kit instead of extra accessory to pay for.

  1. Great review mark! I’ve been looking for something like this. Too bad the screen of the n82 is so small and dim, the N95 looks so much better in these pictures.

  2. 2 questions:

    1. it appears that the 5MP camera is covered up! Is that right? If so, can you easily punch a hole to allow videoing? Don’t think so but you never know.

    2. Do they have a bike handlebar mounting kit as well as a car mounting kit? I tried checking out the manufacturer’s website but it wasn’t 100% clear to me!

  3. @roland I’m not sure if they have a handlebar kit.

I have to double check my car to see if the camera is covered up by the holder. I don’t think it is on the N95, but I think the N82’s camera is covered. i’ll get back to you tomorrow.

  4. Can you get a GPS fix to your N82 when its in the holder? I am worried I would need to get a suction cup thingie for that.

  5. Yes we do have an handlebar option for motor cycles.

  6. @roland Just checked, and the camera on the Nokia N95 holder is not covered. Looks like you can do your bicyclecast using the ProClip mount.

  7. @JohanvanMierlo - unfortunately I know nothing about motorcyles, will your motorcycle handlebar mount work on a bicycle?

@mark that sounds great. secure bicycle cast here i come! (assuming johan confirms that it will work on bicycle handlebars)

  8. Do you get any interferance through your stereo with the phone being mounted that close to it?
This looks like a good option although the Alfa 145 kit seems to mount down by the gearstick rather than on the dash…

  9. Thanks for a great review. I have used the pro clip system for 3 years now and it is by the best out there. There service is great. I sent them a picture of my 08 Highlander and they followed up and built a mount for me. After seeing your review on the move clip I ordered 3 of them.

    Thanks

  11. I have a Merc and have a wired in car phone system fitted it takes old type of nokia.
I have now got Nokia 95 8GB and want to get some kind of conversion kit to be able to connect my new Nokia phone in place of the old type.

I have tried asking every shop including Mercedes benz company.##One answer from all ” we cant help”

Suresly someone out there know what I want. and How can I get it?

  12. I just picked up the ProClip system for my Explorer and iPhone, with the slot for the charging cable built into the holster. By far the best vehicle mounting system I have ever used.

    Highly recommended.
