I did a *.doc (“How to speak and write correctly, Project Gutemberg”, 536 Kb) openning time comparison between E71 and N95 8GB. I became surprised how faster is E71 over N95 8GB: E71 openned the *.doc in 5 seconds and N95 8GB spent more than 1minute. I repeated the test 3 times (because the “cashed” doc lower time) but I got almost the same time!. And the N95 seems to have 2 processors !

I’ve been playing with video on teh E71
i re-encoded some large AVIs
to 320×240 15fps and the lowest audio rate
plays beautifully

though the last ten mins of an hour long program the audio started to go out of sync – i used to get that issue on the standard real player on N95 too – so will try core.

15 fps is fine for small mobile screens.

If size/weight is not a problem then no doubt the E90 is the best. I’ve owned all the phones in your list except the E71.

I’m either going for the Nokia E71, Samsung INNOV8, or Samsung Omnia.

i have an E62 and i really like it but it lacks or im lacking. im not a mobile geek. but i was wondering about upgrade just dont know to what. i like the screen size and i text alot also the caught up in the web.i really need an all around computer phone. any strong suggestions. i was told about the N95 8G,and the E61i,the E90 and the E71.

Do you generally compress the video before even considering uploading a random mpeg4 compressed movie onto your phone? Just curious since I have an old phone without video media playback of that particular format (DivX/XVid)

The N95 has h264 hardware acceleration which is implemented in real player. That’s why the E71 doesn’t perform as well.

To test video performance you need coreplayer. Try DivX/Xvid movie with high resolution VGA/WVGA or greater.

Coreplayer does not support h264 hardware accelaration in the n95, E90 etc However the media player is in a league of it’s own without hardware assistance. Much fairer to test both phones with this player…

E71 one has a single cpu running at ~369mhz whereas the N95 has dual cpu running at ~330mhz with the other cpu running at ~200mhz which is for all telephony functions including data transmission etc.

I’m not really the kind of person that would watch videos and such on a phone but I’m just curious.

I’ve been watching full 30fps Xvid videos even with 6121 classic and E71 certainly has no problems.

Of course, you need a real player like CodePlayer… not a crappy Real Player.
