hi guys,
I just got my E71 today with leak backlight as the photo above.
But just push the keypad toward the screen. Push the first 2 keypad nearest the screen then the second keypad below them, which is 'answer' keypad and 'reject' push upward. push the gently, gradually. It works !!!

Thanks guys!!

I've had the E71 for a while now. Excellent phone! Though I am facing a problem.

This morning I dropped my phone onto the ground from a distance of about 3 feet. The phone was in the protective case. This isn't the first time, but probably the third. Now I am facing some problems with the buttons. When pressing on e, "qe2*" appears on the screen. Similar pattern for D and C. Problem with the back space, enter and left arrow key. The drop was not that bad for such an effect on the phone.

Any ideas on what could have happened?

Thanks

Hi neko,

tried pushing upward the left soft keys and call keys to close the gap but keyboard just goes back to its original position. Mine is low on the left and high on the right. Any ideas. Thanks in advance : )

Thanks for this! I just got my third e71 on the mail today. I've had stuck pixels on the last two. One white one in the lower right corner, and then a second e71 that had a red stuck pixel right in the center of the screen! Thanks to Amazon and their wonderful return policy, I finally got a good e71... until I realized the keyboard was jacked and completely at an angle. I was livid. Then I did a search and found your post. Actually, very little pressure needs to be applied and you can push anywhere. Mine was too low on the right side and over too much completely on the left. After a few minutes of just pushing and aligning I got it dead center and looking great. Thanks again!

"To get nit-picky, I notice a space between the screen and keyboard, leaking light out that is noticeable in the dark."

Hi Mark, this was one of the first things i noticed when i got mine. But here is the trick to get rid of the gap. Just push with your fingernail the inner edge of the two softkeys towards the screen and also push the call/end buttons in that direction. This works, because the whole thing has quite a lot play. Et voila, the gap is gone... ;)

By the way, the first picture of the E71 on this page is by far the most beautiful I have seen for the device. It makes me wanna run and get one...if only it had a decent camera (similar to N95 maybe?).
