Review: ProClip Car Mount/Holder For the Nokia E71

I already wrote a great review of the ProClip and believe it is the best device mounting solution for our cars. I tried it on the Nokia N95 8GB, the Nokia N82, and now on the recent popular phone, the Nokia E71. ProClip also just came out with a holder that includes a built-in charger so they sent that as well for the review. Check out the pics and video after the jump.

Want to see more of it in action? I streamed 2 videos live on Qik using the Nokia N95 8GB showing the difference between the holder with the charger and the holder without. Note: The videos below might not be visible in your RSS reader.

Verdict

The Proclip mounting solution requires you to purchase a specific mount built for your car, and then a specific holder for your phone. I explained this more thoroughly in my previous ProClip review.

The ProClip holder for the Nokia E71 fits perfectly with the phone. You just slide it in and can feel how secure it is in place. Since the mount was also made specifically for my car model, I don’t have to worry about my phone falling off when hitting those nasty New York City potholes.

Expensive but worth it. To put the Nokia E71 on my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, it’ll cost:

  • Holder with Tilt Swivel – $39.99 (add $40 for built-in charger)
  • Mount – $34.99
  • Move Clip Kit (optional to easily slide in multiple devices in one holder) – $13.99

Sure, I can get one of those cheap plastic windshield suction holders, but do I want to put my $400+ phone at risk of falling off and breaking? I don’t think so. The ProClip is expensive, but you really get what you pay for. Just ask anyone who owns it already.

Know other solutions that may work as well as the ProClip? Do you own it already? Please let me know what you’re thinking.

  1. man, i didn’t realize how much that runs…

but you’re right, i’m not about to risk my $$$ phone just to save a few bucks and have the phone get dislodged and go flying

    nice

  2. Hi, Nice review but honestly this is way too pricey. This is what I use in my mitsubishi lancer and it is held in by screws, far batter than this clip.

To this you can mount any mount you wish, I always prefer the original Nokia mount

  3. you’re right;
sometimes worthwhile to spend a few $ more and be confident that everything will be OK
I also do not want to risk the collapse of the phone

  4. I agree that a good firm grip is necessary, but that’s a bit pricey. I found this clip at Best Buy for $30, and I have yet to have a phone (or the mount) fall, despite using it in my truck and 2 moving trucks.

I think the key on this one is the thick foam padding on the sides, so you can really grip the phone, and the swivel tabs along the bottom, to make sure the phone doesn’t slip out the bottom.

  5. I have used one of these for my last few phones (now an E71) and think they are well worth the moeny, exspecially as I use my phone as a sat nav. I have the cables threaded behind the dash to keep things tidy.

  6. What’s the point of spending so much money on car mount, so that you can use the tiny screen of the phone for navigation, when you can spend the same amount to buy a dedicated GPS unit?

  7. I would also buy an expensive car mount for an expensive dedicated GPS unit. I don’t need one though, since I already have GPS on my phone.

  8. I have a better place to keep my phone. My pocket!!! If I need GPS Service, just pull on the windows, switch on the AC and place the phone on the steering panel. never had any problem with that…This is just way too expensive for my liking..I already foolishly put in $24 to have Opera Mobile. Thankfully they have a 30 day refund policy!!God bless them..

  9. E75 is really nice. The photos leaked online. If there’s Eseries phone that I want to buy, this is it.

“E75 features a hybrid form factor incorporating both a normal keypad and a slide-out side QWERTY.”

  10. I have one of these holders and they are fantastic…. if you are in the uk you can buy these from a site called http://www.mobilefun.co.uk and search for proclip. From what I can tell they have a very large range of these proclips.

  11. i prefer the genuine Nokia CR-106 cradle for the E71.But this cradle looks good aswell.

  12. Caravan sat-nav

Caravan sat-nav now comes with features, such as broad LCD screen, DVD player, radio tuner with Bluetooth integration and iPod support. Such advanced satellite navigators direct you in a safe manner to avoid low bridges, narrow roads and other hazards. The most important factor while choosing the caravan sat-nav is its version. The latest version is the most updated version, which contains latest road maps, information on new hazards and new developments etc. If you do not buy the latest version, you have a lot to lose. If you already own a caravan sat-nav then, you need to get it updated regularly so that you do not land into troubles, which developed recently but your sat-nav does not have the database updated with it.

  13. Bargain Hunting!

    I'm an addict. a Shopaholic. I can't help myself.

But no normal addict, mind you, I am only an addict for a good deal. Did I really need the extra books to collect dust on my shelves? Probably not, but the yard sale was practically giving them away, so how could I resist?
There is a certain thrill that comes from finding a great deal, whether it is at a yard sale, on the clearance rack at a department store, or even at an online auction house like Dubli or any of its competitors. No matter if you need the product or not, a steal is a steal is a steal, and it makes you feel good to find one, even if you don't buy it.
Now am I advising you to let bargain hunting take over your life? To spend all of your money on frivolous things that serve no purpose in your life? Of course not. When on the Dubli network, at Macy's or any other store, just keep an eye out for good deals, because you may find something that you actually do need, and all of your friends will marvel at your savvy shopping before too long.
Here are my favorite places to find an absolute bargain.
    1) Scratch and Dent Sales.
People return things to stores for practically no reason whatsoever, and shopping a scratch and dent collection from a big, popular company can get you something that you wouldn't be able to afford otherwise, but there is nothing you can find wrong with it. I got a 4 hundred dollar computer desk at a warehouse sale last year for 80 bucks. A steal!
    2) The Clearance Isle
Sometimes you see people in there, trying to rush through so as to not be seen by their friends, looking this way and that to make sure they are incognito. Stop it. We all love the clearance isle, admit it. It's okay. Besides, what a company decides is the spring collection so isn't on the shelves in summer doesn't mean it won't still look great in your home or on your person any time of the year.
    3) For Sale by Owner
Yard sales, pawn shops, and online FSBO sites always have good steals. The problem is in finding them. Look for something moderately priced that you really need, then low ball an offer. The worst thing that could happen is you get to keep shopping!
    4) Auctions
You've never been!!?? Oh dear, get yourself to an auction. Nowadays you don't even have to find an auctioneer (however much fun that experience is, though), since you can get online to any number of them. Try a traditional auction, or for a real steal, find a reverse bidding site, like what is found on the Dubli networks. You won't believe what you can find there!!
So there it is. A recipe for disaster for any admitted Bargain Houndaholic.
