They have priced iPhone at about $720 for the 8GB and $850 for the 16GB version. The enquiries were in the range of 200,000 before the sales started and prices were announced but I believe lot of people have been dissapointed by the high price. iPhone is sold thru two operators here, Vodafone and Airtel. The sales figures for Airtel's first day stood at approximately 500 handsets. Vodafone were not announced. But people are excited.
N96 has created kind of confusion here. Just because it is named N96, people are taking it to be a natural upgradation over N95 8GB which is not the case. Its an evolutionary product with features of it own taking somethings from N77, N82 and N95 also. I bilieve more of business users are going in for iPhone but people like me will wait for N96. It is also supposed to be priced in the range of $800-$850. Which is kind of a gamble in India. At that price, people generally go in for E90, 8800 (business users). But iPhone for sure has people lining up at the stores, not the kind of hype we have seen at US, New Zealand or Japan of course. Watch this space when the N96 hits the stores!
