Nokia N85 vs Nokia N96 Screen Comparisons

I think the Nokia N85 is better than the Nokia N96, but don’t take my word for it. Let’s take a closer look at what others say about the new AM OLED screen on the Nokia N85 vs the LCD screens used on the Nokia N96 from those who actually had their hands on both devices.

Nokia n96 vs Nokia n85 Screen

Rafe from All About Symbian on the Nokia N85 first impressions wrote the AM OLED on the Nokia N85 screen is brighter, colours sharper and more accurate compared to an LCD screen. He also wrote there is an improved viewing angle and contrast ratio that are noticeable in watching videos. What about text? Rafe says the screen is more readable even with small fonts.

Dmitry from Smape on his Nokia N85 vs. Nokia N96 comparison wrote about the improved power consumption and a better looking color palette. Just like Rafe, he also notices the wider angle and higher refresh rates. He explains the LCD screen on the Nokia N96 is good, the screen on the Nokia N85 definitely better and close to perfection.

Rita from Symbian-guru on her Nokia N85 OLED vs LCD screen comparison wrote in a non tech-savvy vocabulary, that everything on the Nokia N85’s screen looks more real. The colors are more popping and images appear to have more dimension.

Thoughts: Size or Quality?

They all agree that seeing is believing, so I am looking forward to getting my hands on a Nokia N85. I’ve gotten used to the bigger 2.8 inch screen like the one on the Nokia N96, but the huge improvement list on the screen of the N85 sounds like a 0.2 inch size difference is negligible. What do u prefer? Size or quality?

n85 screen is tiny and feels like a huge backward step if you;ve had n95 8gb. sent mine back and will wait for n97
  • I like the screen on Nokia N85 better than N95 8GB because of improvement in brightness, color, and sharpness.
  • cak
Can't believe what shocking resolution these both have, at 320x240...even the iphone has more than this (480x320). I thought the Nokias had really high resolution, shame!
  • mark
hi...............just got the upgrade from orange, had the n95.....now i have the n85 &its ace!!!!! loving it....its just a baby virsion of the n96, n85 is the better of the 2 thoe.
  • Dan
I guess it's a perception thing, but to me N85 screen looks ALOT smaller than N96, and I had both in hand at the same time :-)
  • Alex
I love nokia nseries. I think n85 is better then n96. I only miss xenon flash and i will buy it when they will come with xenon.

Hi people. I'm Italian and scuse me for my mistakes.

I read more and more about this N85 and... It has convinced me! Ok, the screen will be a 2.6" and not 2.8" but this is not important for me. I prefer quality and not .2" size. Also, the dimension of n85 are smaller than n96.
Infact are 103x50x16mm and weight 128g. (Excuse me but i don't know in inches) The out audio power is fantastic and you can recharge via USB. Have also the FM Transmitter! In Italy is forbitten but... I'll use it in my car or at home, obviously :-D

Natural... A N8x series is normally have less features than N9x series. But this time, Nokia had worked fine!

Last thing... price. In Italy the N85 cost 450€ (euros). The N96 cost 720€!!!!!! For what? Only a "larger" screen and dvb-h, not available till end of this year (this is the hope of n96 users).

No no no, i prefer the N85 and I agree with J_UK: The N85 is the best Nokia multimedia device at the moment.

    Hi Jay

I bought an N96 from cpw and it's superb. The cpu is only slow if you dont charge it for 16hrs. I charged mine for 16hrs and the cpu is considerably fast. I can watch movies in high quality gaming is good quality (better than me N95)and the battery lasts me at least two days and by then it still has 2 bars. only bad think about the N96 is the camera sometimes blurs when you click the capture buttons and the live tv is useless for now. If the N96 had the OLED display, 8mpx camera and same screen size but a lighter and smaller and slimmer case then I can bet you the N(^ would be beta but in my opinion the N96 is beta than most phones but I would like it to be a bit cheaper, maybe £450

N85 is the best all round nokia available at the moment................ .

Its the upgrade from N95 8GB (which sud have been N96)

i wrote a whole page of info regarding the difference between N85 and N96 but jus as i finished it deleted it by mistake so am gona make it short n sweet.

Have had my N96 for 2 weeks returning it back and waiting for N85

    N85 faster CPU then N96

DVB-H not available in UK till approx 2012

N9 doesnt have 3D accelerator, N85 does- This effects the gaming experience and also video recording quality.

slow CPU plus 16GB on N96 makes browsing through the fone/starting apps very slow and keeps lagging

Battery Power Difference...talk time, video playback etc...........

U can charge N85 through USB but not with N96

    Beta FM Transmitter on N85

N85 has lens cover N96 doesnt

Nokia N85 has new screen technology called AM OLED (this makes viewing vids/pics etc more desirable

N85 has smaller in size (screen size 2.6") more comfortable to hold but N96 has bigger screen 2.8"

Build quality is rubbish on N96, makes it feel cheap

Navi Wheel on N85 not on N96

theres plenty more stuff which are not so important but cant rememba at this moment... my overall view the upperhand N96 had was DVB-H but it not availble yet... i wud different go for the N85 cos its most hightech Nokia multimedia fone available at the moment..............

But if u not really botherd about functons and u need a good Nokia fone jus go for the 6300 its a brilliant fone to use for just for fone calls............
  • this two phone has a different quality of pictures, I've try to snap a picture using this phone and I found the different.

    Cheer,
    Nokia News
  • I preffer quality over size at the moment, so i'd say the N85. Although all of the buzz is for the N96 in my store, i dont think it has that huger difference from the N95 (Other than than the obvious new features and memory size)

    why the n85
    best thing is OLED
    and that it
it as a small screen (same size as the n95)
    i have used the n95 8gb and the n96
and the bigger screen makes up for the oled
also the n85 as crap phone internal memory
oh dear if the n95 is to go by
    so there
  • Jemma
in reply to your comment john, the internal memory issue youve brought up isnt really an issue, id say its a possitive for the n85, becasue if something goes wrong with your phone, and it has to be repared, they send it away, amd wipe off anything on the actual phone, as i found out, but with the n85 u can simply save it all to your memory card and its safe.

for me i dont like internal memory, unless you have the option to have a memory aswell!! a bit like the n95 8gb, i dont like that, but the 16gb samsung internal memory is ok because you still have the option for a memory card, but this is my personal opinion, and every body is different
  • john mortimer
sorry i am lost to what you are saying there

i was on about the internal memory
not the 16gb, but the ram it uses to run software and so on
the n85 as loads less than the n95
    its crap

please note that the n96 as 16gb plus also as memory card (i also have 8gb in my n96

    i hope this helps
  • Bobe
I also think(like Jemma, because u loose everything if its repaired in service) that memory on card is more better solution than internal memory(maybe its a little bit slower response,but...). And one more thing, i had iphone 8gb and in one year of using it, i never fill more than 40% of memory. Means, i payed 8gb and never use more than 3gb. I wll wait for n85.
  • john mortimer
we are on about the n96
    it also as memory stick
  • Jemma
u really dont get what im saying do you?!

basically internal memory is crap, unless you have the option to have a memory stick in it, then its ok, i think all fones without memory card slot, are crap, because so much things will go wrong, when your phone has to be repaired, and trust me it will hav to be repaired because the n95 and the 8gb version has so many issues, its unreal!!!!!

I'm torn - my head says N85 all the way
but theres that nagging doubt that i want the top of the range. it's an odd irrational pain.

the tv aspect is useless in the Uk

its been on pre-order @ nokia.co.uk for a few days for £525. I went into the flagship nokia store and they were taking pre-order names. I asked what price / date and they didn't know. I said it was £535 on nokia.co.uk and they said it would be way more than that!!!!

Typically the regent street store is £10 - £30 more expensive than nokia.co.uk
  • john mortimer
    can i just say
that my n96 looks better than n95 and n95 8gb
  • N96 was released today in Europe. I definitely feel like the N96 should be more as the flagship, and that the 85 is probably a better choice, BUT, those .2 inches is the same as going from an n95 to an n95 8GB, and that my friend was big.
  • Tijs
none i want both, a bigger oled screen :p hahaha ... oh i almost forgot and a xenon flash :)
  • Andy Burgin
Really Glad the N85 is being released by nokia as waiting for the N96 that long got on my nerves an the N85 looks so classy an slim,an its out in about the same time as the N96 but the N85 will easily outsell the N96 i think, been offered the i8510 from Samsung but will now wait for the N85 instead
  • the n96 is available preorder in the UK at http://shop.nokia.co.uk
  • looks like it started shipping in europe
