Closer Look At Nokia E72 - Better Camera and Smaller Spacebar

It looks like maybe the Nokia E72 have a better camera and the spacebar was reduced to make way for additional buttons compared to the Nokia E71. Let’s analyze the leaked Nokia E72 and E75 video again. It looks just like the E71 but thicker and available in bright red color. What does the extra thickness bring in addition to the thinner Nokia E71?

In the photo below, you can see a clear border around the camera with inscriptions right below it. It is implying to me that the camera could be one of the the Nokia E72’s highlighted features. Wishful thinking tells me “Carl Zeiss” is written somewhere there.

Also take a closer look the spacebar on the Nokia E72. Instead of taking up the space of 4 buttons like on the Nokia E71, it is only taking up 2 buttons. It looks like Nokia created separate buttons for the “Chr” and “Ctrl” buttons on the right side and separated the buttons for the forward slash “/” and at sign “@” on the left side. Those are great adjustments in my opinion, but I’m not sure if other people will like a smaller spacebar.

Let’s compare it to the current Nokia E71’s keyboard below. Certainly a difference in the layout between the two devices.

Introducing a better camera for the Nokia E72 will make me a big fan. I enjoy using the Qwerty keypad on the Nokia E71, but not so impressed with the camera. The smaller spacebar will probably take time to get used to, but I like the adjustments made to separate some buttons. I think it’ll make for a better email and typing experience.

  1. Nokia E72 Vs E71 | The S60 Blog

  1. Having a small spacebar doesn’t matter to me because I’m using Nokia phones for the past few years, and the spacebar is small. So it’s like N95 or N82. :D

Well, I never had an Eseries before.

  2. Wow, looks really nice, would be very happy to beta-test it if Nokia is looking for beta-testers. I use E61 since one year and a half and it’s already a great product but these new ones looks yet better :D

  3. I now have an E71, and the only thing I find disappointing is the camera. It is just not good enough, really. Outside with good light it is fine, but other than that, quite rubbish. From forums and blogs, I understand I am not the only one.

I’d be a little upset if after two months of buying it, they’d announce the same phone but with a better camera. I know this is how things can go, but now I am “stuck” with this camera for another 2-3 years.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the phone on basically all other aspects.

  4. Actually, some people are saying it will have a down-graded camera. So I would not worry, Bas H. Essentially, from what I’ve heard, its a cheaper model with lower quality materials and camera, possibly other tweaks. The extra thickness (if any - hard to say from the pic for sure) is probably either due to 1) the plastic casing having to be a bit thicker to take the beating 2) other production line configuration issues or, 3) simply to set it apart from the top of the line, sleek and sexy E71 by making the E72 slightly chubbier.

downgraded camera?! yuck how do u downgrade an already bad camera

    Viipottaja on 23 September 2008

Mark, well.. yeah.. but as you know they easily can of course. Some dirt cheap 2mp unit (although, a good 2mp can beat a bad 3.2mp of course) for example. Also, its not only about the cost but just targeting: i.e. even though the difference in costs of materials might only be $10, they migh sell it $20 cheaper, cutting into their margin but hoping to increase volume. But you know all this. :)

  5. This is supposed to be for ATT as well. Looks like anyone who gets one of these things will probably not be able to get away with the $20 MEdianet plans. I just hope the fix the reception issues. The radio is just in such a strange place.

seriously man… i do not notice reception issues on the E71. Stop believing Blackberry fanboys.

  6. looks to me like it might have a higher resolution screen, and rumour has it an ‘e’series version of fp2 as well.

  7. Thks for sharing the info. Love the qwerty keyboard.

  8. I had reception issues! About 3 weeks into usage my 3g was spotty in places I normally got it (compared to when i first got it). I baby my phones too, so its not damage related. That could have been ATT, with all its issues, but when I switched to an N95 in the same places it was fine…
