Vlog Demo: Listening To Text Messages on Nokia 6220 Classic
New Nokia phones can let us listen to our text messages without installing anything. I just found this very cool feature built-in already on the Nokia 6220 Classic that should also work on the new phones running S60 3rd edition FP2 like the Nokia N96 or Nokia N85. I don’t have those phones yet, so I can’t confirm. Take a look at the video.
On this demo, I asked Sheila to finish the video for me. She’s not a big Nokia fan, but agreed to do it anyway. Thanks, sweetie! Make sure to see the outtakes at the end.
Note: If the embeded video below is not visible in your RSS readers, you can view it here.
As you can see, it’s a nice feature, but the computer’s voice might be hard to understand. A lot of my friends also type in sms shortcuts that the phone might not understand. I also think it is a nifty feature that can make better drivers if they listen instead of read their messages.
Check your Nokia phone and let me know if you have this feature.

Awww… I think Sheila should present all your videos from now on! ^_^
I love the voice on that 6220, reminds my of the speech synth stuff on really old (80’s) arcade machines.

My good old E51 came with the same feature…
So it’s on S60 3rd FP1 as well - at least on some E-series phones.

E71 has it, too. Also for e-mails. You can download more voices (especially other languages) from the Nokia website.

Great out takes!
Just to add, the N81 does not let you change the voice settings like your 6220 Classic.

While in active-standby, my E51 starts reading all new messages aloud by just long-pressing the left “blue” key. Amazing - took me almost a year to discover this…
