Nokia N85 3G Speed Test – EURO/ASIA Variation Works With US 3G

Yes, the Nokia N85 sold right now in Europe or Asia and can be purchased on eBay will work with AT&T’s fast 3G network. To keep it simple, ATT’s 3G network works on 850/1900 frequency, while the Euro/Asia Nokia N85 works with 1900/2100/900. Thank you 1900 for making this possible!

As long as you are within AT&T’s 3G 1900 coverage, you will get fast 3G download speeds on the Nokia N85-1. Take a look at a speed test I did tonight with the Nokia N85.

Take a look at the Coverage Map of AT&T’s 3G 850/1900. I don’t know how to find out which area specifically only works with 1900 only. If you know how, please let us know!

658 kbit/sec in New York? I got 3 Mbit/sec in a country you probably even haven't heard about.... romania, but i guess that what is making you the best country in the world and we still remains one of the... "3'rd" world country....

any chance this would work on an asian n96?

Yes, current N85's will "work" on AT&T's 3G but *only* in 1900mhz 3G area but its my understanding that there will be both 850 AND 1900. I think it would STILL be best to get the real US 3G version when possible (850/1900 UMTS). Cheers!

So Mark are you gonna be doing a review (or video review) on the n85?
  • review after spending some time with it. it's too soon.
  • MT
Well I'll be looking forward to it; that's for sure. I'm due (and I mean way overdue) for a new phone.
  • This map will show you what provider uses 850 in a particular area.

    http://cellularmap.net/regions/

In new york city, AT&T is the "A" side cellular provider, thus, the provider on one side of the 850 band. This means that you should be using 850 for the most part when on AT&T in NYC.
  • So if AT&T is the "A" side cell provider, that automatically means it's 850 band? So if I got the N85 Eurasia version it wouldn't work on 3G in the Los Angeles area?
