Nokia N96 vs Nokia N85 Fall Foliage Photos

I think it’s the perfect time to compare photos taken by Nokia N96 vs Nokia N85 at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden because of fall foliage. It was cloudy, but I still managed to take some great photos from both the 5 megapixel cameraphones. Take a look and let me know which device takes better pictures.

Your Opinion

The image quality on both the Nokia N96 and Nokia N85 is pretty good. It’s pretty close, but I think the Nokia N85 has sharper colors. Which device took the better photos in your opinion?

What settings did you use on the phones?? I read on another blog site that the N85's(NAM) Auto settings were really bad compared to the other Nseries devices

n85 has less of a purple tint in the colors, looks better. i wonder why recording video fails miserably on it.

N85 no doubt. I'm saving up to one as we speak. Have a HTC Diamond now but the N85 rocks in comparison.
  • well taking a look at those photos, you got me convinced that N85 is better than N96, its pretty obvious that N85 have sharper colors..
  • Yea, the N85 is slightly better with more deeper colours. But I think both are pretty well compared to the N95 8GB cam ;-/

I bought the N96 and a few weeks after the N85. For me the N85 is the best for all functions (except,of course, for the DBV-H because this standard doesn't exist on the N85)and is the best of all Nseries !
At least it's the best Nseries that I had between hands !
    Believe me !

    n85 all through here
  • The N85 smells like samsung innov8
  • I would say the n85 all the way also, but Mark which one best represents the colors.
  • Clearly the N85s pictures are vivid and rich in details. But the first photo comparison, nothing much difference is depicted.
  • Season Sam
What's the season Fall? Don't you mean Autumn ;) Fall is something you do when your very very drunk.....
  • The N85 gets my vote.
  • The N85 colour wins it for me.

The N96 gives a more natural photo while the N85 has the saturation turned up a little high for my liking so while the colours look a little brighter there is just to much contrast for me. In the fist photos it looks like the N96 is a little blury but that might not be the camera.
At the end of the day I would imagine that the differences are down to the camera processing not the lens it self. I downloaded the N96 shot and pushed the saturation up a little in the gimp and it now looks a much more natural shot than N85 one.
  • Makes sense. I tried it as well.
  • I hope you're right and a firmware update can simply fix the Nokia N96's photo quality.
  • The nokia n85 has better colours. It seems that it had captured the real picture. The n96 seems to have the quality in n95 8gb maybe its because of the protective lens which produces a little purple effect on some pictures...
  • 85's pics look like they have captured the natural colors better. The colors in 85 are more warm.
Considering that 96 has received a FW update (10 to 11), and 85 is on its 1st FW, thinks certainly look better for 85.

I like the N85 colors and overall clarity. The N96 is just too washed out and not even focused properly it seems.

The N85 also looks to have a bit too much noise and overly sharpened. Both could use a lot of tweaking with their camera's FW.
