Nokia N97 Widget Competition Now Live – Get The N97 Early

The Nokia N97 Widget Competition is now live! You have until February 27th, 2009 to design a widget you want to appear on the Nokia N97. The winning widget designer will receive a Nokia N97 ahead of the public release, pre-installed with their homescreen widget. Of course, I already submitted mine!

I haven’t been this excited about a phone since the Nokia N95, so I’m really glad to have a chance to own a Nokia N97 before anyone else.

Nokia N97 Ping Widget
My widget design submission

The widget I designed is something that utilizes the Ping.fm service where I can update my Twitter, Jaiku, or Facebook statuses on the home screen of the Nokia N97 in just one post.

The widget contest gallery is not up at the time of publishing this post, but I’m sure it will be available once they get more submissions. Submit yours for a chance to win the Nokia N97 and good luck!

They finally managed to put something up but the list now is huge and it seem they didn't implemet any system to balance a bit(same time for evey applet on the frontpage then move to a second 'top view' page could probably help a bit...
  • Not sure if you know, or care to know, but I see your widget posted. =)

  • @Chan, thanks! i didn't think it'd get up there.

wow, my last comment is really 'targeted', I never realised how much my commentes were so 'marketing friendly' :)

That contest seem like a bad managed marketing move :). I like the idea of giving to final users the perception of creating something but the entire operation seem pretty bad realized. Having to post just a 360x60 image (the mitical DESIGN PACKAGE is just a grey rectangle...) the site should be full of hundreds widgets organized by topic. Instead it seem everything is pretty freezed and this make people feel fraud because the lost 'exposure time'. I have no idea what is going wrong here, Nokia usually seem always pretty responsive (at least that is my experience with the maemo comunity)

It's up now, but there are surprisingly few entries. I also can't see your submission or my own. Do you think their form is broken or are they rejecting ideas without notification?
  • Mark, your widget looks awesome!

If that is just the widge or an image, where is the actual Widget? I don't quite understand what is required?
  • @Mike, the contest is just to design the widget and tell them how it should work. No actual programming required. At least that's my understanding.

can i ask...what do you mean by widget..is it the looks of the icon?
