The Nokia N97 Could Be The Answer To My Problem

There are two phones that I use regularly but leave the house with only one that I think will serve me most for the day. They are the Nokia N85 and the Nokia E71. I can’t get rid of one because none of the two devices have everything that I want in a phone. If Nokia doesn’t mess up the Nokia N97, it will be the answer to my problem.

Nokia n97

I love the Nokia N85 because of the camera, multimedia features, and size. I love the Nokia E71 because of its speed, size, and the qwerty keypad. However, the N85 lacks qwerty and the E71’s camera is useless. If I’m going to be hanging out with friends, I’ll bring the N85. If I’m going to the school or the mall, I’ll bring the E71 for better email and texting experience.

The announcement of the Nokia N97 came with specs that should make any Nokia fan drool. It has the 5mp camera, the large touchscreen, qwerty keypad, GPS, a big battery, and lots more.

Don’t Let Us Down

It sounds like the perfect device! I’m just hoping it lives up to the specs. I have been disappointed before. Will it have purple pics like the E71? Rattle like the N81? Slow like the initial firmwares on the N96?

Nokia… please don’t let us down.

  • I'm thinking if anything that will let you down maybe the OS or the keyboard. It just doesn't look right.

anyone know how to sync 2 nokia symbian phones message inboxes?
  • @2312, Have you tried Nokia's Switch tool? On my N95 it's under Tools > Utilities. It can transfer contacts, sms, mms, pictures, videos over bluetooth.

The secret is to not connect the bluetooth before you run Switch.

FP2 devices will start with bluetooth, then start an AD-Hoc WiFi network, so the transfer is faster.

    @matthew bennett,

Nah i don't have that option, the issue is that i have a N73 and a 6680 which i use on a regular basis (upgrading soon) but i would like to sync my texts messages on a regular basis too.... :<
  • @2312, Both great choices! I had the 6682 and the N73.

I'm assuming that PC Suite does not allow you to sync your sms's? I'm on my Mac for hte weekend, so sorry I can't check for myself.

If nothing else, Nokia's newer phones have solved this problem. : )

How do you carry around two phones and keep the same phone number?

Do you have two SIM cards with the same number? (didn't think this was possible)

Do you swap the SIM card between phones all the time? (sounds like a massive inconvenience)

Or do you just have two separate phone numbers (and two phone plans to go with them)?
  • @Michael P., I just swap the SIM cards. It takes a few seconds.

I have the option of having another number added to a family plan, but I don't want to carry more than one device.
  • I agree.. it will solve a lot of problems for a whole lot of us. I am eagerly looking forward to this phone, one reason why I don't want a 5800 right now, even though its so good.
  • But E71 is not so big. I think that N97 will be much bigger and it will be more noticable. However, camra in E71 could be better...

    Hi Mark,

I can't agree with you when you say that the N97 came with specs that would make any Nokia fan drool. To be honest, the announcement left me with a very bitter taste in my mouth. The N97 comes with no significant hardware improvements over the N95 of two years ago. The screen isn't even capacative. The keyboard isn't arranged well. It's got the same camera sensor from the N95 that has long been surpassed by Samsung and other manufacturers.

And then, Nokia gave us the icing on the cake. 1H 2009? What's taking them so long to bring out a device that's basically just a bunch of spare parts from Nokia's factories out? By the time the N97 is out, other manufacturers will already have their own, superior versions out. Remember the N96, Mark? 8 months before you could buy one. 8 months just for a N95 8GB rehash. The Samsung i8510 was announced AND RELEASED during those 8 months and it beats the N96 in every way.

Nokia are still underestimating their competition. The N97 is no where near revolutionary enough to wait a possible 6 months for. Fix up, Nokia.
  • @NokiaWillLetUsDown, you have excellent points! It got me wondering if Apple will come out with something better before the N97 hits the stores.

I'm not a big fan of the N96. I'm still mad at the idea they came with small battery. I love my Nokia N85 though.

hey mark, i wanted to inform you of something that you probably will be interested in. I was at a ATT store and i was bugging the dude if they had any good nokia devices and after a while he said that there will be one comming in April. A nokia device with a full touch screen and a qwerty keyboard. You could probably guess which device that is. the dude said that he knew this information because he reads this kind of stuff that is provided to the ATT employes. If you want you can probably go to a certified ATT store and ask the guy if he could look up the information.you can probably investigate this yourself if you want more info. BTW, the phone will probably get delayed like
the Bold, because in April the 6 month mark will be done and the phone will be released in Europe. It will probably take another 2 months for it to touch US.

    @all

the nokia i think didnt focus much in specs for there phones. they just thinking the average necessity of people for a phone and for the speed of n97 its just the same from other nseries and its just have a touch screen and qwerty.

n97 is also cheaper than x1 and omnia(not sure)

nokia plans to produce again a millions of n97 just like n95.
  • Seriously though, where is my 8mp camera, other than that, bring it on! Cool form factor for the win.
  • I wouldn't want an 8MP sensor, instead give me better processing of the photos and more features within the camera!

I am really eager to get hold of this phone, imagine carrying your internet device (netbook) in your pocket!
  • @Aditya Singhvi, i agree. quality over quantity. I'm a little disappointed hearing the video and camera on the 5800 is not that great. I'll ask for 8mp when Nokia gets 5mp right.
  • I do like the internet feature of N97
