Worst phone ever, do not buy, spent £550 buying the mini verson, sold it 2 months after for £100, well done nokia, made me lose £450. No one would buy it for more than £100. I had bought nokia phones all my life, my first phone was the Nokia 'Brick' with Snake on. Everyone had this. I got a Nokia every christmas, didnt get a phone two christmasses ago, just money, bought this phone, made me change the way i think about Nokia. DO NOT BUY NOKIA, i would rather shit in my hands and clap, than buy another Nokia phone.

Good Points,

Looks good.

Bad Points

Keeps On Crashing,
If You Dont Update Software, Disables The Menu Key,
Touchscreen Is Shit,
Shite App Choice,
The List Is Endless.

Decided to buy a iPhone 3GS, best phone purchase of my life, if you are deciding to buy a Nokia N97 or Nokia N97 Mini or iPhone 3GS, choose the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. At least you will get your money worth.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is really sad, is that to this day the N97 is still one of the best looking phones on the market.A bit like a very gorgeous woman that does not know how to have sex.And that is the problem with this phone. The lights are on but nobody is in.The software on the phone and the so called upgrades and support are crap. You can pick up a cheap Android pay as you go phone here in Germany for about €100 a fifth of the price I paid for my Nokia n97, and it works 40 times faster and better. And then the dumb bosses at Nokia wonder why they are losing market share. What they did when the launched the Nokia n97 was destroy the brand name Nokia forever. All the top bosses, execs and Nokia fans at the time of the launch went out and bought one when it came out expecting a top phone, and we paid top dollar for it.What we got was a good looking bookend holder, and at the same time Nokia lost all of its premium top end phone buyers in one fail swoop.Had Nokia done something at the time to remedy all the problems with this phone, they could have won back some goodwill. But they didn't and instead decided to sit back on their arrogance, and bring out further rubbish phones like the N8 and N900 which in some ways were even worse. RIP Nokia, and I hope you have success selling your latest pile of crap to Lucifer in hell. As soon as my contract is over in 3 weeks, I will go to a public toilet after a massive lunch and block the toilet with the N97 as the entree followed by my lunch as mains.Bastards!

Never again will i buy a Nokia phone. My N97 is 1 year old and is falling apart and the phone freezes every 2 days even after new software was installed. All the years Nokia has been including Pdf reader in their handsets and now have to pay an additional R130 to have the licence activated. I am already paying top money just to have the phone on a contract. Bye Bye Nokia

The thing is we all feel cheated by nokia when we bought the N97, the lights go off and won't turn on again and we would have to switch it off and switch it on again before we get the lights functioning.
This is not even comparing it to the iphone, this is just basic usability features that keeps shutting down on ppl who have paid hard earned $$$ to buy this.

The N97 mini is a complete disaster.
This video describes the best what an N97 (mini) user have to take day by day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJpEuMidcSU
I was a great Nokia fan. I had 5110, 7110, 6210, 6510, 3310, 6610i, 6230i, E65. All of these were great phones in their class! And now this awful thing. Maybe the N8 will be better, but I do not dare to try.

Trusted in NOKIA's capabilities to produce great smartphones for many years. I didn't even think of buying another brand. With the N97 this trust into NOKIA ended immediatly!

It's pure c*ap !! Don't buy it !! Reasons have been mentioned by the others below! With the N97 NOKIA managed to turn my trust into strict denial! No Nokia ever again! Good job guys from Finland!

I just read some of these posts, and I have to say WOW. I just picked up a used N97 a few weeks ago and it is quite simply the BEST phone that I have ever had. Better than the Iphone I had, better than the Motorola Global Q I had. I am thinking a lot of the complaints are coming from user error. This phone can do everything out of the box, and has amazing call quality. For those of you comparing it to an iphone, please realize that the Iphone can't do many things and has terrible call quality. The iphone has a great touch screen, although I do like the touch screen on the n97, and the iphone has a ton of apps, although, Nokia has enough for me. Otherwise, the N97 slays the Iphone on all other counts.

You shoud not limit it to 5 reasons. I would prefer to have one of the brick phones used my Michael Douglas in Wall Street.

Phone will not charge from a USB connected computer (Before a moron says try another computer - I have tried 5)

Randomly shuts down.

GPS does not work.

Can not play movies

Freezes at will.

The only way you can claim for a replacement phone is if you NEVER took it out of the box.

PEICE OF SHIT phone and a waist of peoples time and money.

Thats after I had upgrade from a peice of shit E71.

Phone will not charge from a USB connected computer (Before a moron says try another computer – I have tried 5)

Randomly shuts down.

GPS does not work.

Can not play movies

Freezes at will.

The only way you can claim for a replacement phone is if you NEVER took it out of the box.

PEICE OF SHIT phone and a waist of peoples time and money.

I hate N97!!!!!!!!!! I loved it at first but now it keeps on running out of space and I don't receive messages even though my mesg inbox is 100% empty. I tried changing the setting to Mass Memory...still nothing! I was really loyal to Nokia. I've never used any other brand. Now N97 completely changed my brand preference!!!

Go ahead and buy a N97 for yourself, we'll see you back here complaining withing a few weeks. You will be banging your head against the wall asking yourself why you didn't listen to the comments on this page. Hundreds of calls to customer cannot fix a problem that has to do with an UNDERPOWERED PROCESSOR and LOW RAM memory. The only way the issue can be resolved is if Nokia were to give you a newer model in exchange, which they will never do. I solved ALL the problems with my phone by purchasing a Motorola Milestone

If you updated the firmware, used selective apps to manage memory, battery life, etc, it is a good robust phone. It has worked well for me and I travel around the world with it.

Ah NOKIA the so called awsome mobile phone maker. atleast thats what i thought after owning around 5 nokia phones. I always had my cell phone dropping from the height of a man to the floor especially tiles. My phones never broke becuz of that. But then when i was considering touch screen, its latest in fashion and blah blah, then its nokia i thought it can still keep falling and i can laugh at iphone owners. but this time nokia cheated, making a chinese phone with no shock research and development and pricing it for 550 pounds is just shit man. I spent my entire one month salary on it, used it 5 months. once it dropped vibration stopped function for about a week. then again it fell on CARPET, this time neither the vibration nor does my touch screen function. Its with the guarrantee guys and they return it untouched. Now i have to pay for it. The camera is the worst in the history of cell phones, who thinks u can actually see a captured pic when theres 2 bright leds next the cam? and how will be the image clear after turning them off? Serious waste of money, if nokia wants people stop using nokia, then NOKIA plz go ahead. 1 more thing, my bro bought n900. the phone doesnt catch the sim at all, we replaced 2 phones at the best nokia store both of them had the same problem.

I challenge nokia to build the best phones again!!! with shock deterrent compatibility and user friendliness, otherwise sell the software to someone worthy of a try.

Well I have owned about 12 Nokia phones starting with my 2128 in 1994 with a 2160, 6160, 6161, 3300, 3390, 3220, 6130, 8910, 8860,8390, N95 and finally my N97. I have been very happy with most of them and a couple had some small build quality issues but nothing to make me hate Nokia. Until now. My N97 is a boat anchor. Right now I cannot even turn it on because I let the battery die last night, its been on the charger for 2 hours with the charging light lit. When I try to turn it on i feel the buzz but nothing lights up. I have experienced this a few times and know that it will eventually turn on. I have to re-boot this phone several times a day to make it work properly. I have reset the phone and re-loaded the firmware several times. Most of the time bluetooth will not connect unless I switch bluetooth off then back on again, it then makes a connection immediately. If I listen to the FM radio I first have to put it on "offline mode" than back on again otherwise it cannot lock in any stations, after a few hours the frequencies start to "wander" and it randomly tunes in other stations until I put it into offline then back to normal mode and the tuner works again for a few hours. The phone drops calls randomly in places that my other Nokia phones have not (other than my 3220 which also did this). Sometimes the screen fails to light up when unlocking it via the slider, many times the charging indicator scrolls even when it is unplugged, the lens of the camera has been destroyed by the "protective" slider, WiFi won't connect to certain types of routers (ones that my N95 had no issue with), there is not enough room on the c drive and the processor is too slow. I could go on and on about the problems with this phone.

I agree with rakeshmisri, this is the worst phone ever produced by Nokia, especially considering the $600 US price tag. I called customer service and the only thing they could tell me to do was send it in for service which will not fix the serious design flaws that this phone has (not enough RAM, slow processor) and certainly will not improve the horrible OS as I already have the latest firmware version. When I sent an email in to complain they claim to have lost it even though I got a confirmation email from them saying it was received. Unless Nokia comes up with a really incredible solution for me this will be the last Nokia I ever own.

N97 SUCKS! I made the greatest mistake in my life for buying this hopeless phone in Jun2009. After 4 months, I sold it away before I smash it against the wall. The features look apparently promising and existing but they are not working properly! Silly phone kept hanging, double images appear on the text, restore programme could not restore backup data which were working fine prior to backup. White model has a serious design problem - the backlight camouflages with white light in the room or moving vehicle and the alphabet on the keypad were hardly visible at all. Sensor not working sensibly. The Sims game bundled with the phone is the silliest touchscreen game we'd ever seen - imagine having 4 arrows on the screen and we have to tap on the arrow to move the character left right up or down. It really makes us wonder if the designers know what's a touchscreen for and how it should work.

Well, I hope iPhone (or any other phone out there) will KILL the N97 before it kills our sanity.

Shame on you Nokia - your products and support have gotten from bad to beyond hope!!
