Nokia Messaging Updated – Yawn… Still No HTML Support
Nokia let us know a few days ago that Nokia Messaging was updated with a patch. What I only cared about was whether it finally supported HTML email. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t. I’ll be sticking to Profimail on my phone for my email solutions until they support it.
Davis Fields, the product manager for Nokia Messaging, wrote,
This is a patch, not a whole new service release. HTML support and other improvements are coming in the big release in Spring. The E75 and E55 feature our first clients that include support for HTML, but don’t worry, we are close to our next release for older devices that includes support for HTML.
I think it means, “We want you to buy the E75 or E55 to get HTML email.” Why do I have a feeling Nokia will also make consumers wait much longer after the release of the E75 and E55 for HTML support on older devices? I hope I’m wrong.
This is the reason I prefer HTML with my email:

Without HTML (left) vs HTML on Profimail (right)
I still think Profimail is currently best email application on our Nokia phones, and suggest you try out the demo. I believe the demo lasts for 60 days, until it requires a license purchase of $25 with the coupon SAVE20NOW.

What about RoadSync , The New 4.0 version supports HTML – did you try it out ?
Mark Guim on 19 February 2009:
Is that for exchange only? I use Gmail with imap.
Ricky Cadden on 19 February 2009:
Did you read the full announcement? It’s stated that the HTML supporting version of Nokia Messaging *will* be available to everyone, and not specifically limited to the E75 and E55.

Yes, confirming what Ricky’s noting here, this isn’t a plot to sell you our newest devices, just release schedules. I think there may be small period of time where you could purchase an unlocked E75 before our update for older devices comes out, but that’s it. Nokia Messaging is in the Services division of Nokia. We want to make services and software that get the most out of your Nokia device, and not make you purchase the very latest devices in order to get functionality that could easily make it’s way into older devices.
Mark Guim on 19 February 2009:
Like I said on the post, “I hope I’m wrong.”
Ashu on 20 February 2009:
Darn! What will happen to my profimail licence.
I have paid for that about 6 months back. Guess, will be sticking to that.
Atleast, it has given me no reason to complain for the money i have paid.
Rene on 20 February 2009:
APN selection is great, key even. I will check it out immediately (although SmartConnect is very flexible)
However, key question for me is if (in the future) we will get full support for Exchange with Nokia Messaging, ie not just email. The least would be the ability to accept a calendar invitation (calendar, contacts now sync with MFE).
Is this on the roadmap?
Thanks for the good work, way to go!

I would also like to make a small suggestion: with every announcement to remind people how they can upgrade. The first place I looked was in the client…then I remembered I have to go back to email.nokia.com and log in, etc
clayb on 22 February 2009:
@Kuba, RS4 does support HTML, but on for exchange, and ONLY with exchange server 2007. sadly 90% of the world is still on ES2003, so not lots of joy there.

The new version of Nokia Messaging is available to download from email.nokia.com with HTML support! Woohoo!

The launch of the E72 makes it very clear that Nokia's agenda is to push new model at the expense of old customers. The extra memory (internal & external), the faster processor and the updated software are obviously attempts to address the E71's defects. If they had any decency at all, Nokia would offer a discounted upgrade to all E71 users.
