Nokia 5800 NAM With Updated Firmware Fixes 3G Issues

It looks like Nokia doesn’t want North Americans to ditch the 5800 and wait it out for the Nokia N97. I just got semi-good news from someone on the inside that the Nokia 5800 NAM issue will soon be fixed. My source says Nokia 5800 NAM’s with updated firmware found no problems connecting to 3G.

5800 nam

The Nokia 5800 NAM’s initially came with a v11 firmware. If it was indeed a firmware problem instead of the hardware, then we should expect to see the phones back on the shelves at the US flagships sooner than later. If this is true, those who have the phones already can simply upgrade when the new firmware becomes public. I’ll post some photos of the updated Nokia 5800 NAM soon. Stay tuned!

  12. Yeah bring them on……………

  13. WHAT A PRETTY COOL DESIGN..KEEP GOING NOKIA..

  14. I think they haven’t shipped the pre-orders because they don’t have it, not because of the 3G problems.

Anyway, all people that have asked get the same response from Nokia. ”Will ship in 2-3 weeks” Right now we are almost at the end of the 1st week, so it should ship from 1-2 weeks?

I think that the version that Nokia is selling has a 1500mAh battery instead of the 1350mAh that others are selling.

  15. @Edward,

Thats right what you said. But I initially thought that they said 2-3 weeks just to ward off public from asking any more questions. Then my question would be will they really be able to ship it in a couple of weeks???

  16. nokia brand is always been the best among the rest. its ddfinitely the one to be trusted. Its very user-friendly gadget and of a ral best quality standard. Go NOKIA bring it on!

  19. Just seen on a Cell Phone Website the Nokia as Solved the 3g issue with the North American service an will be selling the 5800 express as soon as they can

  20. [...] When you’re dealing with a major signal reception issue on a phone, it’s easy to believe that the problem isn’t gonna go away without retooling the innards and releasing revised hardware — but for North American owners (and would-be owners) of Nokia’s stricken NAM version of the 5800 XpressMusic, there’s new hope. The Nokia Blog is claiming that word from an inside source confirms that the problem has already been fixed with an unreleased firmware update, which would lead us to believe that Nokia could conceivably get devices back on the shelves relatively quickly — and that current owners will be able to fix their woes without physically exchanging phones. Of course, firmware updates have never come out of Espoo at a firehose pace — particularly for North American versions of devices — so we’ll believe this is resolved when we’ve seen it with our own eyes.Source [...]

  28. @sharomyga,

    Lets keep our fingers crossed!!!

  29. @sharomyga,
would the European version be converted to US with the new 3g fix software update?

  30. @jjcimbom,
    Not sure about that.

  31. @jjcimbom,

I don’t think the software will fix that, this will only fix the phones which are designed to work in USA.

The European versions work only in Eruope (3G network) as their band frequency for internet is different than USA.

  32. Thx for the replies
Heard that hardware is the same for all regions in the world leaving the option of software difference depending on the network in the region..
I wish we could buy European and flash it to US once the new patch becomes available

  33. @jjcimbom, no dude you can´t.
    It´s not a software thing.

  34. Well, I guess customer service repo was wrong ((

  35. I gave him the update v20.2.014 my nokia, which I struggle to buy American version either, but wonder if the fix is 3g or not?

the update fixes this because I do not really did anything

  36. good :)
