Vlog: Top 5 Things I Do on My Nokia N85

I always carry my phone around and admittedly take it out of my pocket many times a day. This past weekend, I’ve had people ask me on separate occasions what I was doing on my phone. I thought I’d make a video to show instead of tell. Here’s a video of the top 5 things I use or do with my phone, which is currently the Nokia N85.

Note: head to the blog if the video is not visible in your RSS reader.

  1. Web Browser – I check Techmeme for the latest Tech news and Facebook to see what my friends are up to.
  2. Synced Calendar – I maintain my calendar so I don’t miss meetings or other important events. I use Goosync to sync with iCal and gCal.
  3. Live photos – I show my friends what I’m up to by taking a pic and instantly sharing it on Twitter and Facebook. This is done with Shozu.
  4. Live video – Lately, I’ve been streaming live videos with Kyte. It gets announced on Twitter and shows on my Facebook sidebar
  5. GPS navigation.- I can’t get lost thanks to Nokia Maps and the turn-by-turn voice navigation.

I’d also like to know your top 5 usage of your Nokia phone. Let me know in the comments below!

Hey Mark where did you get that N85 theme? It looks pretty dope
  • Ashu
@Robert R., You can get a similar theme from NaHid, I believe called N86. (or PiZero it was) but the theme is available. i use the same on my N82

Hi guys. I'm new here ;)

Anyway, my top 5 things I do on my N82:

    1. Nokia Email. I also use the Gmail java app and the built-in email app.

    2. Opera Mini. Recommended over the s60 browser.

    3. Slick messenger. I'm usually online on my MSN, Yahoo, AIM, and GTalk, even if no one else is online :(

    4. Calendar / To-do. Keep my appointments and to-do lists.

    5. JBak TaskMan. Great task manager I just can't turn on my N82 without. (It's the settings actually)

@Ashu, I totally agree about the loyalty that the N82 drives. I've been seeing some nice Nokias ahead, like the N97 and the N86, but I wouldn't sell or trade in my N82 for any of those. I told my girlfriend that even if I did get the N97 (planning to), I would want to make a box similar to the one Pepper Potts gave Tony Stark, only that my N82 is inside and not an arc reactor. There is just no other mobile phone that has such a loyal fanbase as the N82.
  • Nice video, two quick questions:

    1) How did you get your phone to automatically prompt you to send your photo just after it was taken?

    2) How do you add twitpic as an available service through the photo interface?

Hopefully those can both be done on my N78 :)
  • @Aaron, #1 and #2 appears after installing Shozu and setting Twitpic as the one-click upload destination.
  • @Mark Guim, er, yeah totally just saw that after posting the comment. I was too busy watching the video to read more ;)

    Mark,
The top 5 things I do on my N82 are:
    1. Geocaching with Geocache Navigator which is fast and easier than my Garmin GPS
    2. Watching TV on my Sling Player.
    3. Checking the status of my boat on the virtual Volvo Ocean Race game
    4. Bluetooth to transfer photos to my laptop easily
    5. Twibble...just started using it.
    Ian
p.s. Here is a quick question. If you had to give up your N82 or your N85, which would it be? (I know the N82 camera is important to you)
  • Ashu
@Ian, you know what, N82 is like an iPhone in its own little way. (What? Are you nuts?) Well, I mean the loyalty it commands from whatever little base it has got. I will not trade it even for N97 (sounds like an exaggeration, but its not). Until and unless I see some good real world reviews of another xenon from Nokia, i am gonna stick it out with my little phone. If nokia decides to shut its doors on xenon, then probably N86

5 thing i love to do with my n81

1.Play Games- ngage to d highest! hehe.

2.Watch Videos- Movies, trailers, music videos etc in my coreplayer and dont need to convert.

3.Music - Music is the best on an nseries phones with standard jack. I love it when I used it as a source and my only hassle is the big speakers.

    4. Camera - with the 2mp cam is enuf for me. good for both video and capturing daylight pics.

    5. As my Watch and my Calendar. I take notes and just simply used standby mode to see them.
  • with mini techmeme you do not get the discussion!! only the main article.. i prefer the desktop techmeme on my n95.

congrats for making it on to the homepage of techmeme with Your "Music Player is Ringing", Mark!!
