Nokia 5800 NAM Back on Shelves at Nokia US Flagship Stores – Preorders in 1-2 Weeks

You are probably tired of hearing about the whole 5800 NAM launch fiasco (especially if you are not North American), but hopefully this will be the end of it. The Nokia 5800 NAM is back with updated firmware v20 and returned to the sales floor at the US flagships. Those who pre-ordered online should be receiving theirs in 1-2 weeks.

Nokia 5800 3g

We’re not sure when the v20 firmware will be available for those who currently have the Nokia 5800 NAM purchased from other stores. We’re also not sure whether the update will indeed fix the reported 3G issues.

Update: Here’s a quote from a Nokia spokesperson:

“We have concluded this was an isolated situation related to a configuration change in the North American variant. We have now adjusted the configuration and will resume sales shortly. Those few customers of the 5800 who experience a 3G signal issue are advised to contact Nokia Customer Care. We extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.”

    Mark,

How do you know pre-orders should be shipped within 1-2 weeks? A source from Nokia or speculation?

    Thanks.

I got it yesterday after the first 3g incident..now works on 3.5g on att, quality is good, for me the internet feature is important since I am not an iphone fan but got used to touch screen with iphone..so can not get back to regular cell phones and nokia 5800 has totally an edge over dissatisfied iphone customers...
for me the downside is for applications and widgets you want to add, they want to charge fee even for adobe reader $15.0
as for the design I think nokia is more masculine and iphone is more feminine
    thx
  • Wifiguy
    Love hate for iPhone Why?
  • jjcimbom
@Wifiguy, tried to utilize iphone but fell short of my expectations especially does not come close to nokia sound quality during a call and drops calls easily due to poor reception. So far I observed 5800 is well beyond any sound quality with its compatibility to att's 3.5g and even better than my other N95 8G...I believe nokia has overall better tech. quality and yet good pricing..

I bought this phone on first day and returned. Used it for 12 days. The software for US and UK version are different, UK version is very good. Sound quality is good. Nokia NEVER CARE ABOUT US CUSTOMER, I thought Nokia QA is good, but I am wrong. For proof please visit the Flagship store and check the software of US and UK.

    Phone is good.

First time i bought this phone on first day, This time i am going to wait atleast 2 months.

In this Economy, i don't know how many people going to spend $400+ Tax = $435 for an OLD technology (Touch Screen Technology is an OLD now). US Version phone is made in China.

    Lets wait and See.

I agree about the customer service. They don't know what is going on. They have given me different answers everytime I've called for order status on this phone. One guy told me that all preorders on or before March 17 have been shipped. Not true at all cuz I ordered mine before then and it is still on backorder. When I emailed them to ask why my preorder was still backordered when phones are already out on the their flagship stores, they told me that the phones that they are selling in the flagship stores were not the US version. I emailed them back with several links announcing the phones were back and never got a reply from them. How can you have a customer service representative that does not know what is going on? I don't understand this whole preorder thing either. I thought that preorder meant that you get the phone as soon as they come out. Why were preorders last to ship when we have paid for them already. They charged my credit card as soon as I purchased the phone. I found it odd since most of the online stores won't charge your credit card unless they have the item on stock and will ship immediately. If orders were backordered, they won't charge you until they get the items in stock and ship them. I'm so frustrated with Nokia that I inquired about canceling my order. They told me that I would need to pay a restocking fee of 15%. How could that be when they have not even processed my order and I have not received it yet. This is my first purchase of a Nokia US version phone and probably my last. I normally just buy the European version but wanted the US version since I have ATT as my provider. I've always loved Nokia phones and it's a shame I've had to experience this.

Same thing here... Its starting to piss me off... I been waiting on this phone for about a month ago... Called Nokia yesterday and the representative said it will shp in about a week or even this week because they have it in stock (which they had been saying everytime i called them)... but im yet to see a change in my order status from backordered... I'm starting to regret I pre-ordered from Nokia, cos it makes absolutely no sense....
  • kaye
Check your order status cuz I preordered mine March 5 and the "backordered" changed to "in progress" today. I can't wait to get mine. Hope I won't be disappointed since I waited so long for it! Hope you get your phone soon.
  • The restocking fee is ridiculous because that usually only applies if the box was opened and the phone was used.
  • kaye
Exactly! I am just hoping that this phone does not disappointment me as well.

I am sorry but really tired of it. Still trying to figure out what's so special about this phone?
The first symbian touch at $360?
The camera sucks and the touch key isn't THAT responsive.
My thoughts based on usage from a friend's.
  • Pai
    @Ashu,
    a) It´s not the first symbian touch.
    b) The camera sucks compared to wich other $360 phone?
  • Ashu
@Pai, I meant Nokia's first Symbian touch Pai. Just that I have never used any other brand so tend to generalise, oops.
Secondly, I did not compare to camera to any other $360 range...I use an N82 and for me, it really doesn't make sense. Not that I am so so hung up on 5mp but yes, it gets very grainy in nights so doesn't serve the purpose of convergence for me.

But if someone is willing to confront, there must be something special about this phone :)

    No offence meant
