PixelPipe On Nokia Share Online Rocks!

If you like uploading your photos and videos online before you even get home, you need to check out Pixelpipe. I’ve talked about Shozu and Mobypictures before, but Pixelpipe really stands out as the winner. Not only does it work with Nokia’s own Share Online, but the also provide a lot of places you can simultaneously upload to. Now there’s no reason for me NOT to upload to Ovi Share.

Usage

To setup: Go to pixelpipe.com/nokia from your handset to get your Share Online client configured.
To use: In the Gallery with a photo selected (or mark multiple) choose ‘Options>Send>Post to web’. You can also select the ‘Post to…’ icon to upload immediately after taking a photo.

Pipes or Destinations

You can choose from a lot of services you can upload your photos and videos. Take a look at this screenshot below.

Routing tags. Another cool thing about Pixelpipe is the use of on-demand filters. For example, if you signed up for 10 destinations, you can still upload a photo to certain services at specific momenst. You can set a ‘routing tag’ for each service and simply type these tags on the title before you you upload. If I want to upload my photo to Facebook and Flicker only, I’ll type “@fb @fl Photo Title Here,” so it will only upload to those two instead of all default destinations.

Thoughts

Pixelpipe is really a must-have for anyone with Nokia device. Since it is patched with Share Online, there’s no need to install third-party apps that runs in the background like Shozu.

Pixelpipe is also similar to Mobypictures that I previously liked, but it proves to be a lot better. The amount of destinations is a lot more to choose from. I can’t think of any negative things about Pixelpipe. You should go ahead and set it up on your phone!

how do actually make it work? i downloaded the configuration settings for like 4x already.. then, still, the pixepipe option doesn't appear in the upload section in the gallery. i'm using 5800 btw. help. :)

I installed the widget on my N97 and, after restarting, finally managed to enter my login-data. Now I've downloaded and opened the .cfg-file about ten times (via the direct link, by pressing "Create configuration" in the widget and when prompted while trying to upload) and Pixelpipe appears in the "Send To" menu, but when I choose that, the browser opens, makes me download the .cfg-file yet again and then there's only the message "Waiting for the browser". Any solutions for that?
  • I suggest you tell them about this directly at http://getsatisfaction.com/pixelpipe
  • Thank you your post was really useful and I've subscribed to your feed. Pixelpipe really made my day its an excellent application and to my delight I found what you've written is definitely true, its a must have :)

how do i pick which of my pipes it uploads to. Currently it does all of them, (facebook, flickr, twitter, ovi, etc). Can I just upload to one?

This is so awesome. Thank you so much for posting this. I've been killing myself trying to figure out how to EASILY upload photos from my N85 to Facebook. iPhones and Blackberries have a dedicated Facebook application, what the heck Symbian community? Pixelpipe works perfect for my photo uploads. Yay!

I can't get this to work on my 5800.

    How bout a tutorial?
  • Been using pixelpipe on the Nokia 5800. Just go to pixelpipe.com/nokia from your handset to get your Share Online client configured.

hey. I cant make my 5800 work :P

all i can see from my phone browser is pixelpipe-account.cfg. downloading it and clicking it does nothing, browsing to the download directory and trying to open the .cfg does nothing.

please help! i really want pixelpipe :(

    i have a 5800 from australia, shareonline version 4.0.08.49, symbian firmware version V 20.0.012.321.02

okay, the pixelpipe after-initial-setup page has a link for "download the application directly" or something similar.

click that for an alternate cfg, "pixelpipe-setup.cfg". opening that adds pixelpipe to shareonline.

then you have to open "pixelpipe-account.cfg" which activates your pixelpipe account in shareonline.

    then youre golden!

OK, found a tutorial. It wasn't working the other way. Works now. Love it.

Thanks for always letting us know what is out there for our 5800.

I am very glad I get your post in my e-mail in box!

    Keep up the good work!
  • No problem Jason. I'm glad you read the blog!

I hope they will add netlog.. No netlog is no go for me
I want to use netlog with the built-in sharing app on my n85.
I there anyone with a solution?
  • Does netlog have an email upload interface? If yes you can set them up with the email pipe. We allow you to send as if from your personal email address or from Pixelpipe if you prefer.

We'll also look into adding them as a dedicated destination if they have an API we can access.

Great service, and as PixelPipe mentions, media uploaded to sites that host the images are the "owners".

    ie: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3348/3448405738_...
  • very good app..i like it
  • Solos
Unfortunately I can't activate Pixelpipe from Ovi Share from my N95 8GB. I enter login data correctly and after hitting Sign in I get the same login page again and again :(
  • We don't use your regular Pixelpipe password since the connection between the phone and are servers in unencrypted from Share Online. To protect your privacy we generate an application key for you that you can use in place of your password, the big advantage is that you're able to protect your account from unauthorised use.

You can find your private application key under settings after logging into pixelpipe.com.

    Hi

i have one question. I really like this service, but how i can update facebook status with it?

i have set up everything correctly, photos and videos go to wherever i want to, bu it seems that i cannot goe update to facebook status. it would be great that there is some way from share online to do that (sime string in photo description or something)

    thank you
  • arek
The service looks very promising. I've just connected my Flickr, Picasa and Ovi acocunts to it and it works like a charm.

One question though - is there any way to set a private album on Ovi as a default for photos uploaded with PixelPipe? I tried to look for such an option but with no success.
  • My thoughts on PixelPipe are "meh". I am thoroughly underwhelmed. It is just another service that hosts your photos on their server and then they allow you to post your photos to another service of your choice. ShoZu does this. Flickr does this.

[Here comes my "Own Your Own Stuff" rant:]

I was really really really really really hoping that PixelPipe would allow me to moblog directly from the Pixelpipe share online to my blog without stopping at an intermediary server.

Folks, what happens to your photos when PixelPipe goes away? Goodbye photos, bye bye.
  • I'm not hosting any of my stuff on Pixelpipe. I'm simply using them to forward my stuff to the right places. Flickr is the main place I store my photos, but if I can forward them to Facebook, Ovi, and Twitpic, why not?

By the way, Pixelpipe is great for Twitpics.
