Qik Connects With Facebook – Upload Videos and Update Status

I love Qik because it lets me share live video streams direct from my Nokia phone. I used it to stream my civil wedding a few months ago. On Monday, they added new features that make them even better to use with my Nokia phones. They connected with Facebook!

When you add Facebook as a service, you have 2 options on the Qik networksettings.

Wall and Status Update

Check Update my wall and status if you want your Facebook friends to know automatically the moment you are streaming. This option has been available on Twitter for a long time, so it’s great to finally see this on Facebook.

Qik updates the status link to the live stream

When I streamed my civil wedding using Qik, I had to manually type the Qik URL on my phone and updated my Facebook status before proceeding. I no longer need to do that. This feature would have been really handy then.

Upload Videos

Check Upload all videos to Facebook and the streamed video will be added to your Facebook video collection immediately. You can later on tag, share, and comment as usual. I’m not going to use this option because I prefer selecting which videos to upload to Facebook.

And More

A few other features were included with the update, but the two I mentioned are the ones worth noting. Make sure to read their announcement from the Qik blog for full details.

Thoughts

When it comes to status updates on Twitter or Facebook, I really prefer to show than tell. You might ask why? If our Nokia phone allows us to include photos and videos within those status updates, why not? The recent Qik update makes the experience even better.

How do you like this new Qik/Facebook integration?
