Nokia 5800 Photos From Haveli Restaurant

Call me weird, but I like taking pictures of the food I eat. Sheila and I were craving for Indian, so searching the web for recommendations led us to Haveli restaurant in New York City’s lower east side. I’m glad we went because the food was delicious. Check out the photos from the Nokia 5800.

Indian lunch with sheila at haveli. Really good!

I usually order my favorite curry type called korma, but thought I should try something else. The menu description of Rogan Josh sounded good, so I picked that. The menu described tender morsels of lamb cooked in an onion sauce, with yogurt, almonds, cream and a unique blend of spices.

I used to be a fan of spicy food, but my stomach can’t handle it anymore. This type of mild curry was just what I wanted.

Sheila also likes Indian food because they are usually vegetarian-friendly. She ordered vegetable korma and judges Indian restaurants based on how well they make this dish. She wasn’t disappointed. The dish was described as curry with cream, almonds, and sweet spices.

VG kurma

Another dish we usually order at Indian restaurants is Saag Paneer. The description doesn’t sound too good, but it’s great with rice. It is homemade fried cheese cooked with fresh spinach.

And of course, the meal won’t be complete without Naan and Rice.

Nokia 5800 Photos

When I’m hungry and there’s food staring right at me, I have no time to play with camera settings. All the photos were taken with the Nokia 5800 in automatic mode straight from opening the camera app. I’m not sure whether the flash fired or not, but there’s a large window directly behind me during a sunny afternoon as a light source.

As long as you have enough light, the photos on the Nokia 5800 actually come out okay. Are you hungry?

  • Looks really tasty in the picture - but totally unlike any Rogan Josh I have ever seen in the UK.

Not that this matters too much - most of the 'standard' curry dishes were re-invented in their current form by Indian and Pakistani chefs based in the UK and they differ widely from one restaurant to another - most of the stories of their origins are myths too - but who cares, as long as they taste that good :)

FWIW, if you eat in a UK Indian Restaurant, the Rogan Josh may well be quite spicy - it is not ususally all that 'mild' over here

saag paneer in india is way better.
  • Man .. You are making go real hungry at mid night !

    Awesome stuff .

    I agree with @Vaibhav

If you like spicy food then come right here .

I don't know about Haveli in NYC but in general , indian restaurants in USA tend to be less spicier

Let me know if your coming to India :D
  • I can't handle spicy food anymore lol.

However, the restaurant is around the block from Brick Lane Curry which supposedly makes the spiciest curry. The cook wears a gas mask while preparing the dish.

Next time try a Pakistani food also, similar too Indians but they have much more variety.
  • I don't know about the pictures, but if you ever come to India I'll treat you to way better food! ;)
  • Thanks Vaibhav! India is the third country where most readers here come from. (1st: UK, 2nd: USA). I'll have to try visit soon and check out some real authentic dishes.
