Opera Mini Silently Updated to 4.2.14320
The default web browser on my Nokia 5800 (NAM v20) is too slow for my liking, so I’ve been using Opera Mini. It looks like they silently updated it to version 4.2.14320 on May 12th. No announcements are found on their site or forums. A minor update like this could most likely mean bug fixes. I didn’t find any new features.
Note: Nokia 5800 North American (NAM) device with firmware version 20 was the current version at published time.

You can download the new version by going to mini.opera.com on your phone or computer.
I never complained about the web browser on my previous non-touchscreen phones like the Nokia N85, E71, and N95 8GB, but the one on the 5800 is frustratingly too slow for me. I already complained about this in a video earlier when I reviewed the Nokia 5800′s browser. I hope firmware updates will solve this problem.
I don’t like the user experience on Opera Mini when entering a web address or filling out textboxes and message boxes. On the other hand, it is a lot faster and more accurate in loading websites than the default one on the Nokia 5800. Another downside to Opera Mini is that you won’t be able to view embedded Youtube videos.
How are you doing with the web browser on your Nokia 5800?

Is it really that slow? I don't really find it slow at all (I didn't opera in 5800 yet, and usually browse through WLAN) do you mean slow at rendering or connecting to sites and loading content?
As for accurate, I don't know, I've had issues with opera in the past (in an old java version in SE K800i) with websites that does not count with a mobile version, and the browser has to deal with divs and dhtml. But the symbian browser? smooth.
I'll have to install opera and make a comparison… If it saves me some seconds, wellcome.
PS. I'm waiting for a S60 v5 native version of opera mobile, that would be sweet.

The default browser is fine loading mobie sites. Try bigger sites like
techmeme or howardforums, and you'll notice BIG difference.
Wes on 16 May 2009:
Howardforums:
WLAN
11 secs on opera mini.
23 secs on 5800 browser.
3G Network
I won't even try…
You're completely right… But opera interface needs to be improved A LOT.
Specially the inability to zoom in/out in easily.

u agree with Mark its kinda frustrating using the regular browser, love the way the page looks after its completely rendered though.

easy to use, fast, resizing pages, zooming, easy to navigate, easy to read. I also liked the function that you can download the images directly from the site to your cell phone.
