Google Sync Now With Push Calendar and Contacts on Nokia Phones

Setting up Google Sync on my Nokia 5800 after reading the announcement on Wednesday made me very happy! Whatever I edit or add on my phone’s calendar or contacts automatically show up within minutes in my computer. This works from computer to phone as well. Since the data is stored by Google, it is also accessible from any computer I use with internet connection. The best thing about this is I don’t need to manually sync each time I make any changes. Thanks Google!

Setup

Setting up Google Sync requires installing Mail for Exchange on your Nokia handset. Visit m.google.com/sync from your desktop and follow the instructions.

Not perfect

I’m really glad that this is finally supported on Nokia phones, but it’s not perfect. My all-day entries show up as 12AM-12AM appointments on the phone. Other users also want multiple calendar support that is not currently available.

Have you set up push calendar and contacts on your phone yet?

Not Supported on N97. Need the Mfe and it is not an option on the N97.

The Google Sync works just fine on my N97 now. Contacts, Calendar and Realtime Gmail. Push mail at that....
  • Mfe worked out of the box on the N97. Just selected Echange account instead or POP3/IMAP then enter the rest of the info.

Got mine working and loving it.

I had tried syncing wid Google but found it problematic...bcoz of that (i guess) each no. has been synced twice....under each contact I have 2 entries of the same no.!! Thus have stopped using it. Also several email addresses are un-named in my Gmail address book. That is a hassle as so many unnamed contacts slow the phone down.

i use OVI Sync. Got all my contacts there with profile photos, phone numbers, email addresses and my calendar all ready.

Just whack in my SIM, setup the details and within a few minutes all my information is downloaded. Then when i finish reviewing the phone make sure any changes are uploaded ready for the next phone.

    Great feature i love it
  • Have you tried OVI Sync?
  • ovi sync is manual sync, while google sync does it automatically in the background.
  • This seems to be a beneficial collaboration between Nokia and Google. The users will be happy with the Google Sync. :)

It appears the latest Mfe does not work with Google. When you try to create the profile, it fails to do so reporting a system error and NOT saving the profile (so you can't even edit it).

i have been syncing contacts on my e71 since it was first introduced. It's been working quite well and i intend to keep on using it.

now that it officially supports calendar i may give it a try over the weekend. lack of multiple calendar support is disappointing but shouldn't be a huge factor

I work for a large FMCG Company and I do use the Nokia tools with Microsoft Exchange in our company - works flawlessly!
    Contacts synch with Pictures,
Out of Office settings are controlled via the phone and many more -
I can download attachements , Print them on my HP wifi printer at home and in the office.
i recently do not even fire up the computer to do stuff :)

I set it up on two Nokia phones (mine and my friend's) already and it works like a charm. I didn't sync Contacts yet - just the Calendar. My friend is in better position than me, because he doesn't use multiple calendars, so no problems with syncing for him. As for me - things you've already mentioned in the post are irritating: all-day events and lack of multiple calendar support. And I'm really looking forward to Google Tasks support on my device.
  • on my E71, it only synced contacts with a company AND a title, which was only 4 contacts out of my 100. Even after adding company AND title and taking away some, it still only synced those 4. And it didn't sync any new calendar entries. I re-checked all of the settings and options, but still nothing. All my contacts and calendars are still on google though.

I currently only have those 4 contacts and would like to sync from ovi, but don't want anything to get erased or duplicated.
