If you don't have WiFi, your options are 2G (GPRS) and 3G (UMTS). 2G and 3G connections are provided by your carrier, so you'll have to pay for it.

Paying by the megabyte is usually very expensive, so if you want to use VoIP over 2G/3G you better get a flat-fee data plan.

If your provider doen't offer flat fee data plans, just go to another mobile provider.

p.s. those who're afraid to give their password to Nimbuzz/fring/etc. should keep in mind that any VoIP/IM program can send your login details to the maker of the program. Slick is no exception. If you use Slick and they want your password, they'll get your password.

I also have Nimbuzz installed in my phone, however im using nokia N76 and it doesnt have a wifi capability. aside from using wap, which my provider charges me and it really sucks, is there any other way that I can use the app without getting charged?

Been using Nimbuzz since it was only available for Java and I tell you it's gotten really good. Low traffic so ur data plan wouldnt kill you and a host of Services you can add, plus a few versions ago they added the ability to easity press the red end button and hide Nimbuzz as opposed to closing it. You can also Buzz fellow Nimbuzz users if they are not online (when Buzzed you get a brief call from Nimbuzz and then Nimbuzz auto launches if you want it to. Give it a run

I'm using FRING for months now as my instant messaging in my 5800. You can also add other services like skype, yahoo, aim, google talk, etc.

Yeah, that's the reason I don't use these apps on my phone, because they all want your password. Slick is the only one that I know of that doesn't require you to give your password to them.

Nokia messenging should be adding jabber functionality, not just ovi, so you can use any jabber account (like google talk).

you should also check out the push2talk feature in palringo , thats one things which impressed me a lot and then sending pictures instantly to the other person I doubt any other IM service has that, I have the desktop version also installed , both works very well

From the Palringo FAQ:

"Furthermore, your Palringo account is saved on our servers. You can log in from anywhere and from any device and all of your IM accounts will be available without the need to add them again."

That only works if Palringo stores your login details.

Based on their FAQ, you need to give them your IM account password, in my case Google Talk. That won't fly for me.

You really have to try out Nimbuzz. This app is really cool. I use it not only for chatting, but also for Skype calls over Wifi. Check it out and let us know what you think.
