My latest discovery on the Nokia N97, which probably works on other S60 devices, is timed profiles. I totally didn’t know this feature existed until yesterday. Timed profiles lets you set a profile (General, Silent, Office, etc) until a certain time. When the time is reached, it goes back to the previous profile.

Setup

I usually change profiles by pressing the power button on top of the phone and never see the timed option. It is available through its option panel. Look for Profiles on your phone. On the Nokia N97, it is under settings – Profiles.

When you click on a profile, you are asked to activate, personalize, or have it timed. That’s what we’re looking for. Enter the time you want and press OK. You’re all set. The phone will automatically revert to the previous profile when the time is reached.

Reasons. I can think of a couple of situations that make this handy.

• Put the phone on silent while I’m sleeping so I don’t hear calls or email alerts.
• Put the phone on offline mode when I’m sleeping so I save battery.
