How To Set Timed Profiles On Your Nokia
My latest discovery on the Nokia N97, which probably works on other S60 devices, is timed profiles. I totally didn’t know this feature existed until yesterday. Timed profiles lets you set a profile (General, Silent, Office, etc) until a certain time. When the time is reached, it goes back to the previous profile.
Setup
I usually change profiles by pressing the power button on top of the phone and never see the timed option. It is available through its option panel. Look for Profiles on your phone. On the Nokia N97, it is under settings – Profiles.
When you click on a profile, you are asked to activate, personalize, or have it timed. That’s what we’re looking for. Enter the time you want and press OK. You’re all set. The phone will automatically revert to the previous profile when the time is reached.
Reasons. I can think of a couple of situations that make this handy.
- Put the phone on silent while I’m sleeping so I don’t hear calls or email alerts.
- Put the phone on offline mode when I’m sleeping so I save battery.

That's awesome. I just checked my NAM e71 and it doesn't have the “timed” option, but it would be really helpful. I often leave meetings and forget to change my profile back to normal.

its very useful for daily schedule like work and school.. where everyday you almost have the same schedule.. you can set specific time.

my main profile is silent but i do time my profiles to coinside with my day say if i have a meeting at 11:30 till 13:00 i will set my general till 11:30 then @ 1 when the meeting is over i then time it till my next appointment this allows me to automate my phone to suit my needs.

it would have been much better for this option to be available also from home screen or power button. Otherwise they kinda' killed it. You'll use it for couple of times, then you'll reach the conclusion it lacks ergonomics

its not a new feature.
I have nokia 6100 and it was there!
now I have nokia n95 8gb and there is no timed profiles.
at the first time it was very annoying, but now I handle without it but want it back.
I used it when I go sleep at the evening putted it to silent and timed it to the morning for a little before the alarm and no one will interrupt you while you sleep and you do not have to change the profile in them morning.

I personally use Best Profiles
Much better option then standart profiles
It can check prfiles according to your calendar, position, charging status etc, plus can change couple other things (like bluetooth status, wallpaper, etc) definitely the best

it's a handy feature but better if we could set it daily. i use (ironically enough) 'handy' profiles (the v3 version will work on v5) and it plays out a treat. i set my phone to go silent automatically during workhours/weekdays, you can even set it to switch profiles within a certain cell area!
i like the timed movie idea though, this is good for more ad-hoc profiles…

Am I the only one who switches my phone off when I go to sleep?! Then there's no way you can be disturbed through the night. I've also heard it 'gives the phone a rest' and significantly extends the life of your phone if you make a habit of doing this. Plus the alarm still works in the morning even if the phone is off. Great feature from nokia!

I was a big fan of this on the older S40 Nokia's, I found it a extremely useful feature and was surprised when I stepped up to S60 and it was omitted.
To the best of my knowledge this is the first time I've seen it included In a Nokia S60 phone. My new N86 has timed profiles too, but my old N82 didn't. I had to buy 'Best Profiles' to get the timed profiles feature.

Business models tend to have it. The E75 includes this feature as did the 6800 (which was a “baby” business model considering the feature set and promotional graphics).

Right, it's actually a fairly old feature. My 6800 had this feature and it was an S40 phone from 2003. I'm not sure if it was on all models at that time or just business models as the 6800 was a business model of sorts (the E70 being the successor of it and the E-series being firmly in the business category of Nokia phones). I used to use it all the time to keep my phone in “Meeting” profile during classes—the default settings for the meeting profile being the “polite” ringer with no vibration, which is arguably less noisy than “Silent” as the vibration motor can be fairly loud and runs until you can silence it while “polite” makes a chirp less disturbing than an hourly watch beep.
I'm using an E75 and it has this nice feature.

I have an N97 and use Profile Scheduler over the built in timed profile anyway. I like how the app can set different profile times based on what day it is – good for workdays and weekends. It stops my phone from annoying my colleagues in the office, while making sure the phone rings on Saturdays.
