Nokia N86 NAM Shipping in USA Aug 22nd For $499

I was spot-on with the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia N97 release dates and now I have the date for the Nokia N86. The black one is shipping to US retailers on August 22nd with suggested listing price of $499. Surprisingly, that’s $59 lower than the pre-order price on Nokia’s website.

Nokia n86 Date

The flagship stores may get them in stock earlier than other stores for the suggested $499 price. Looking at the wholesale price, I expect other online retailers to sell the Nokia N86 around $470.

Are you getting Nokia’s latest imaging flagship device?

Flagship stores in Chicago and NYC have the black phone now. Apparently they will be selling them tomorrow (9/17). I have no idea if nokiausa.com will be shipping the phones anytime soon though. I've heard that they have taken their sweet time, upto a week or so, to ship phones compared to other places in the past.

Did they have it? The Amazon page is back to preorder and now calls it the international version, which I assume is what you would call the standard (non NAM) version.

I too heard the N86 8mp was going to be released in the USA on Aug. 22. But I guess that never happened! Now I read somewhere mid-October. Can you confirm this??? Please let me know.
  • The date keeps going back. First it was Sept. 22nd, then became Oct 13th. Now it says Oct 16th. I'm not sure if they'll move it again so I can't confirm anything.

Mark, thank you for your reply, I understand you cannot confirm! I currently own the Nokia N95 8gb and love it. But I do want to get the N86 8mp, only because the camera will be better and I take a lot of photos with my phone. Do you think (your opinion) it is worth the investment for me to get the N86 8mp? Is it a much better phone then the N95 8gb? Or do you think the only difference is the quality of the camera. Please advise. And Thank You again in advance!

mailed nokia about it... they said this one should be available "before or in october"

    isn't it about time?

It is better that they do it right, than that they release a broken device and have a lot of angry people out there.

However this wait is making me look very favorably at HTC devices. Last time around Nokia won since HTC was behind releasing the device I wanted. Now it might be the other way round.

Let's be honest, how much changing did they need to do with the NAM device? They dropped one frequency and added another for AT&T HSDPA.

I would have settled for this month, but as time goes on I'm starting to look at other devices. Problem is, I'll have to sacrifice something. :-\

There is a unsubstantiated report of Nokia calling a vendor to return the N86´s back home to mama. Carphone Warehouse is the biggest "electronics store" retailer of cell phones in the UK.

Perhaps they´re fixing those unsold for some flaw..... I don´t know. But a 2 month delay is a long time in the cell phone world.

That's for sure. I might just cancel my order and get an N95. Jeez.

    New ETA is 9/11

That's cool. I called nokia about a preorder. They said 8/31 the n86 would be shipping. This was the 26th. I haven't looked at my order on nokiausa, so I'm not sure it's shipping, but this is starting to be very frustrating.
  • BeantownFlyer
At least I feel better that the stores don't have them before my pre-order from the website is shipped. The Nokia USA customer service folks are saying the pre-orders are shipping between 8/24 and 8/31...we shall see

    Maybe "spot-on" should be clarified?

So, uh, it's Aug 23, anybody see any N86 NAMs anywhere in the US? Seriously Nokia, can you get any lamer in the us market?

not entirely true about the n86 not scratching like the n97.. check out http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?...

It's selling at around $400 Singapore dollars here in Singapore, which is probably around US$300, with a basic contract with a phone company. Since I'm looking at a great camera, I think I will get it. It was between it and the N97, which has the same phone as my N82.

Oh yes, a question, is the LED flash better than the Xenon? The N86 comes with a double LED and the salesman had idea which was better.
  • I really hope you are right Mark, but most importantly the price tough!
  • pilsner
That is Ingram Micro's estimated date - they are not always right but I'm hoping!
  • seaotter02
Awesome, thanks for this - been waiting for a solid release date. If only Nokia weren't so horrible in the US, I would have picked one up, but as it is, doesn't look like it's coming in time for my vacation so looks like I'll be sticking to my E71 for this trip.

Anybody know if the N86 suffers the same lens scratch issue as the N97? Seen a lot of speculation based on the assumption that the covers were the same, but nothing confirmed.
  • The N86 camera lens was made the RIGHT way...unlike the N97. No clue why this happened. Check out the photo proof:

For future posterity, based on Mike's link below to mobile-review, looks like some N86's are experiencing the scratched lens issue. Another commenter recently mentioned that stores were getting returns of N86's based on the scratched lenses: http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showpost.php?p=...
