Nokia N86 NAM Shipping in USA Aug 22nd For $499

I was spot-on with the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia N97 release dates and now I have the date for the Nokia N86. The black one is shipping to US retailers on August 22nd with suggested listing price of $499. Surprisingly, that’s $59 lower than the pre-order price on Nokia’s website.

Nokia n86 Date

The flagship stores may get them in stock earlier than other stores for the suggested $499 price. Looking at the wholesale price, I expect other online retailers to sell the Nokia N86 around $470.

Are you getting Nokia’s latest imaging flagship device?

Wow! If the N86 goes for under $500 that's gonna be a helluva a deal and very tempting. Thanks Mark. Keep us updated when it shows up on Amazon.

a nokiausa rep told me they are shipping out august 15th, maybe thats when the nokia flagships get them? either way, looking forward to this phone

Yes, sir. But maybe not right away. I have a trip to London in early October that I need to pay for before I buy my next new baby preciouss. ;oD

  • http://www.mymobileclips.com Brandon

I'm waiting on the Nokia E72, hopefully it will run about the same price.

  • http://thenokiablog.com Mark Guim

I'm also looking for the e72 on the list but it's not showing up yet.
I'll post it as soon as find out

  • http://thenokiablog.com Mark Guim

Don't mind missing qwerty? I'm curious how it handles focusing with
    video.

  • seaotter02

Awesome, thanks for this – been waiting for a solid release date. If only Nokia weren't so horrible in the US, I would have picked one up, but as it is, doesn't look like it's coming in time for my vacation so looks like I'll be sticking to my E71 for this trip.

Anybody know if the N86 suffers the same lens scratch issue as the N97? Seen a lot of speculation based on the assumption that the covers were the same, but nothing confirmed.

    Mark,

I used the Nokia N86 for 30 hours in late June and the N97 for 3 weeks in July. My verdict on the N86 is that I *love* the N86, not just for the juicy camera, but for the build quality and the S60 v3.2 (it rocks, no bugs, no crashes).

My verdict on the N97 was that after I spent 5 days getting the danged thing set up to my liking and over a week later when I had to hard reset it to get it to even turn on, I made sure all my settings were out, and packed it back in the box days before it was due back at WOMWorld. Days. No Qwerty is worth the purgatory I experienced, I seriously researched Samsung & Sony while the N97 was in my possession.

It would be lovely to have a device the size of the N97 Mini with Qwerty, a real 8mp (with 2mb files & not the level of over-compression on the N86 now), a physical zoom (like Samsung & a few Sonys), as well as a manual focus using the touchscreen, I don't think Nokia is going to release such a lovely package any time soon. I am a bit sick of being teased by what could be or what might be 2 years from now or not.

The N86 shines in video. In fact, as of late June, the software for video was much more advanced and ready for release than the digital still was. As I said in my review, I am would like more clarity in from the N86 photos / digital stills. This may be a result of the compression used to make the photos be about 1mb when they should be near 2mb or it might be in need of a bit of software tweaking.

All that said, rather than save $500 for an N86, I spent $500 on getting my painting studio set up in July. If Nokia had released the N86 a month earlier in the US, I would have it rather than a bunch of paint & canvas… ;o)

The N86 camera lens was made the RIGHT way…unlike the N97. No clue why this happened. Check out the photo proof:

  • http://www.n97fanatics.com Mike Macias

Great example of how Nokia lost a customer. Taking so damn long to release their NAM models, I thought they weren't gonna do that anymore.

Jen, your excitement about the N86 is making me excited to try it out. I was a die hard true to heard N82 loyalist for a long time until the E71 and it's 3g internet speeds tempted me to split the time between both phones.

But I need a phone that can hang in low light conditions like pubs/bars and eateries, etc. Hoping the N86 can out perform maybe N97, and maybe even come close to the quality of the N82.

  • http://thenokiablog.com Mark Guim

I like that the fixed focus of video is set to about a meter away compared to infinity on the Nokia N97. There should at least be an option where to set this focus if they are not going to give us autofocus.

I take a lot of photos, so the Nokia N86 is tempting. Still not sure if I want to give up Qwerty though.

  • seaotter02

Awesome! Thank you. I've been looking all over for that and going crazy when random forum members would just put throw “and the N86″ in parenthesis when talking about their N97 scratches.

I totally feel msjen on this one – I've been waiting for the damn NAM version of the n86 for weeks, but now that it's finally coming out, it's just too late for my needs. Still hoping Amazon happens to get this a bit early.

That is Ingram Micro's estimated date – they are not always right but I'm hoping!

  • http://nokiamobileblog.com/ edward

I really hope you are right Mark, but most importantly the price tough!

  • christinasng

It's selling at around $400 Singapore dollars here in Singapore, which is probably around US$300, with a basic contract with a phone company. Since I'm looking at a great camera, I think I will get it. It was between it and the N97, which has the same phone as my N82.

Oh yes, a question, is the LED flash better than the Xenon? The N86 comes with a double LED and the salesman had idea which was better.

not entirely true about the n86 not scratching like the n97.. check out http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?...

  • seaotter02

For future posterity, based on Mike's link below to mobile-review, looks like some N86's are experiencing the scratched lens issue. Another commenter recently mentioned that stores were getting returns of N86's based on the scratched lenses: http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showpost.php?p=...

  • seaotter02

So, uh, it's Aug 23, anybody see any N86 NAMs anywhere in the US? Seriously Nokia, can you get any lamer in the us market?

  • spartacvs13

    Maybe “spot-on” should be clarified?

  • BeantownFlyer

At least I feel better that the stores don't have them before my pre-order from the website is shipped. The Nokia USA customer service folks are saying the pre-orders are shipping between 8/24 and 8/31…we shall see

  • mike

it is the 25th already. past the 22nd. u fail. why this blog say shipped to retailers on 22nd? that doesnt mean there for sale u fag. nokia is selling them preorder for 499 u fag.

  • spartacvs13

    New ETA is 9/11

  • Name

That's cool. I called nokia about a preorder. They said 8/31 the n86 would be shipping. This was the 26th. I haven't looked at my order on nokiausa, so I'm not sure it's shipping, but this is starting to be very frustrating.

  • miray

it shouldn't sound like a surprise to ears that 4 a while now I have been searching around 4 for a cell phone that can help one monitor most unbelievable acts in our respective houses but wasn't posible to see one, until today, I believe N86 is capable. tanx to nokia.

The most precious N95 sold – Check

So come on Nokia and ship the thing :)

  • Name

mailed nokia about it… they said this one should be available “before or in october”

    isn't it about time?

  • olighak

It is better that they do it right, than that they release a broken device and have a lot of angry people out there.

However this wait is making me look very favorably at HTC devices. Last time around Nokia won since HTC was behind releasing the device I wanted. Now it might be the other way round.

  • GG

I too heard the N86 8mp was going to be released in the USA on Aug. 22. But I guess that never happened! Now I read somewhere mid-October. Can you confirm this??? Please let me know.

  • http://thenokiablog.com Mark Guim

The date keeps going back. First it was Sept. 22nd, then became Oct 13th. Now it says Oct 16th. I'm not sure if they'll move it again so I can't confirm anything.

  • Jaxx751

Let's be honest, how much changing did they need to do with the NAM device? They dropped one frequency and added another for AT&T HSDPA.

I would have settled for this month, but as time goes on I'm starting to look at other devices. Problem is, I'll have to sacrifice something. :-

  • olighak

There is a unsubstantiated report of Nokia calling a vendor to return the N86´s back home to mama. Carphone Warehouse is the biggest “electronics store” retailer of cell phones in the UK.

    http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions...

Perhaps they´re fixing those unsold for some flaw….. I don´t know. But a 2 month delay is a long time in the cell phone world.

  • Jaxx751

That's for sure. I might just cancel my order and get an N95. Jeez.

  • GG

Mark, thank you for your reply, I understand you cannot confirm! I currently own the Nokia N95 8gb and love it. But I do want to get the N86 8mp, only because the camera will be better and I take a lot of photos with my phone. Do you think (your opinion) it is worth the investment for me to get the N86 8mp? Is it a much better phone then the N95 8gb? Or do you think the only difference is the quality of the camera. Please advise. And Thank You again in advance!

  • Jaxx751

Flagship stores in Chicago and NYC have the black phone now. Apparently they will be selling them tomorrow (9/17). I have no idea if nokiausa.com will be shipping the phones anytime soon though. I've heard that they have taken their sweet time, upto a week or so, to ship phones compared to other places in the past.

  • olighak

Did they have it? The Amazon page is back to preorder and now calls it the international version, which I assume is what you would call the standard (non NAM) version.
