Nokia N900 Now Official
The Nokia N900 has finally been given an official announcement on Thursday. Nokia says the device will show where they are going with the Linux-based Maemo and continue to work with the community to push the software forward. We have seen an early preview of the N900 already so it was only a matter of time before Nokia unleashed their announcement.

More photos are available at the official Nokia Conversations blog. They’ve also included a couple of videos as well.
Update: A third video of the N900 surfaced. Pretty kick ass!
Highlights
- TI OMAP 3430: ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz processor
- up to 1GB of application memory (256 MB RAM, 768 MB virtual memory)
- OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration
- 3.5in touch screen
- 800 × 480 pixel resolution
- 32GB of storage, which is expandable up to 48GB via a microSD card
- 5MP camera and Carl Zeiss optics.
- 1320mAh battery
- 110.9 × 59.8 × 18mm dimension and 181g weight
- Maemo browser powered by Mozilla technology
- fast internet connectivity with 10/2 HSPA and WLAN
- full Adobe Flash(TM) 9.4 support
- Video recording at up to 848 × 480 pixels (WVGA) and up to 25fps
- full physical slide-out QWERTY
- Expected fourth quarter 2009 at around 500 Euros
I’m concerned about this:
- Quad-band GSM EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
- WCDMA 900/1700/2100 MHz
Will there be a variation that supports WCDMA 850/1900 MHz so I can use 3G in the United States with AT&T?

It looks awesome!!! Great device! Hopefully I'll get one
tateblaze on 27 August 2009:
Cool device I must say, just don't know about this love affair with resistive touch screens that Nokia has. Please stop!!
Mark Guim on 27 August 2009:
I don't think resistive is that bad if there's kinetic scrolling.
jim_0068 on 27 August 2009:
It will be landing on US Tmobile and using their AWS network; hence the 1700 band.
jessicamagert on 27 August 2009:
Well it does look great in terms of specs. Problem is, so did the N810 when it came out, but using it was such a pain. Although it could technically do more than my iPhone, e.g. run multiple apps and had full flash support, it was a far inferior usability experience, so I dumped it after a few weeks. Hopefully they will have improved the N900 and it won’t crash all the time.

hey dude.. this phone seems to be a lot better than n97, no offense to n97 users jus becoz of its OS and the whole form factor… by the way does the n900 support office, i guess this thing is not mentioned anywhere over here and other sites.. may its pre-installed.. any idea?????? cheers…!!
Test Data on 28 August 2009:
Any1 know if this has the built in compass like the N97? Coz I think thats the only feature from the N97 that is lackin here…
Euan Andrews on 28 August 2009:
Features I really like:
- The multiple Homescreens
- The Dashboard
- The swipe transition effects between screens
- That it can play divx/avi out-of-the-box
- The 1GB of RAM means no shortage of memory/crashing apps
- The PowerVR SGX hardware graphics acceleration
- The web browser appears much easier and deskop traditional to use
- Full flash support
I think I am sold.
My only concern, is being the Maemo/Linux OS, should the device or OS not take off, the owner of this device could be left with an unsupported OS that nobody makes apps for or cares about.
Also, will Nokia re-code some of their most popular apps to work on Maemo, in particular, Sports Tracker…as thats a big selling point for me.
I am pondering right now…but it is likely I will sell my N97 and buy this device on release….or maybe 1 month after release, to give time for the reviews to come out.
girish86 on 29 August 2009:
the n900 is missing the fm radio option, it has a transmitter even though there is enought space for built-in music but still the fm radio would be an added feature.. lets see when it releases…

It does NOT have 1gb of ram. Per the specs it has 256gb of ram and 768gb of “virtual memory” (i.e. slow swapping to flash). I also think the battery is way too small and I hope an external larger pack is available. It has 32gb of internal flash, I'd prefer an internal SDHC slot like the N800 had, among other things so you can remove the memory ahead of any border inspections.
guest on 30 August 2009:
Arggh, I meant to say it has 256MB (not gb) of ram and 768mb (not gb) of virtual (i.e. swap).
gunmeat on 30 August 2009:
Biggest + point would be the Maemo browser based om Mozilla technology. But.. as always.. i'm waiting for a smaller phone with maemo 5 OS. I guess thar would come somewhere in the first half of 2010. The N900 is just too big and heavy for me in my pocket.
Adam the Camper on 30 August 2009:
Well, I was hoping, that linux os could be supported from the comunity, if some unexpected thing was to happen, it worked for my prehistoric zaurus pda
On the other hand, I don't know how well that worked for older (n770 and n800) nokia tablets.

Hi guys! I'm an avid fan of Nokia and Symbian phones from Philippines, and I'd like to share my interest in exploring new features in mobile technology particularly this new device and its Maemo platform for mobile communicators.
I'd like to witness how it performs well as a device, mobile communicator, and internet tablet, and be able to know what lies behind this new mobile OS.
I also want to know how worthy to have this device over the other existing and upcoming competitors and rivals in its level, and chat and meet people with the same interest.
I hope we can share each and everyone's knowledge on this stuff among all of electronic gadgets we've had. http://www.Nokia-N900.org is nice place to hangout.

I am not a fan of Nokia as well.

Can’t wait to get myself an Nokia powered phone one of these days, but I can’t justify such a purchase yet. Just wished the monthly plans from the phone companies didn’t add up to so much. The geek inside me suffers.
