Can’t wait to get myself an Nokia powered phone one of these days, but I can’t justify such a purchase yet. Just wished the monthly plans from the phone companies didn’t add up to so much. The geek inside me suffers.
track Nokia

Well, I was hoping, that linux os could be supported from the comunity, if some unexpected thing was to happen, it worked for my prehistoric zaurus pda :P On the other hand, I don't know how well that worked for older (n770 and n800) nokia tablets.

Biggest + point would be the Maemo browser based om Mozilla technology. But.. as always.. i'm waiting for a smaller phone with maemo 5 OS. I guess thar would come somewhere in the first half of 2010. The N900 is just too big and heavy for me in my pocket.

It does NOT have 1gb of ram. Per the specs it has 256gb of ram and 768gb of "virtual memory" (i.e. slow swapping to flash). I also think the battery is way too small and I hope an external larger pack is available. It has 32gb of internal flash, I'd prefer an internal SDHC slot like the N800 had, among other things so you can remove the memory ahead of any border inspections.

the n900 is missing the fm radio option, it has a transmitter even though there is enought space for built-in music but still the fm radio would be an added feature.. lets see when it releases...

Features I really like:
- The multiple Homescreens
- The Dashboard
- The swipe transition effects between screens
- That it can play divx/avi out-of-the-box
- The 1GB of RAM means no shortage of memory/crashing apps
- The PowerVR SGX hardware graphics acceleration
- The web browser appears much easier and deskop traditional to use
- Full flash support

I think I am sold.

My only concern, is being the Maemo/Linux OS, should the device or OS not take off, the owner of this device could be left with an unsupported OS that nobody makes apps for or cares about.

Also, will Nokia re-code some of their most popular apps to work on Maemo, in particular, Sports Tracker...as thats a big selling point for me.

I am pondering right now...but it is likely I will sell my N97 and buy this device on release....or maybe 1 month after release, to give time for the reviews to come out.

Well it does look great in terms of specs. Problem is, so did the N810 when it came out, but using it was such a pain. Although it could technically do more than my iPhone, e.g. run multiple apps and had full flash support, it was a far inferior usability experience, so I dumped it after a few weeks. Hopefully they will have improved the N900 and it won’t crash all the time.
