Having a full keyboard is really valuable, and the thickness of the n900 is fine, theres nothing to complain about because nothing can compare to it.

Cool device, I'm definitely considering it when it is released in the US in two weeks.

I love linux on the server. On my phone, I want it as the foundation for a good mobile centric experience and not merely as a hacker's toy or an IT guy's dream.

With the powerful web browser, I can interact with Facebook or Netflix natively, but do I want to?

The phone is too thick. A good virtual keyboard makes typing a breeze. I wish Nokia had made the Steve Jobs design decision to kill the physical keyboard.

I suspect those with sufficient budgets who buy this will also want an Android phone for the portability and mobile-ease.

And will the n900 have a permanent pdf reader or just a trial version that you will have to buy eventually??

Frankly the size doesn't bother me. It's smaller than my E90 in overall dimension and thickness. And despite the E90's size, it could fit comfortbly inside my jeans or pant/trouser pockets. the only thing it had a hard time fitting in were skinny jeans/pants.

It's double the thickness of the E71, which is perfectly reasonable for a device of this magnitude. I'm fairly certain that they could drop the thickness to near E71 if they lose the keypad. I am not willing to give up the hard qwerty for 100% softkeys. While the virtual qwerty from iphone is good, it's simply not optimal. A device like this needs hard qwerty to be optimally used.

I wait anxiously for this device.

Too thick. I see no reason why Nokia couldn't make it as thin as the N97, but I understand that they probably wanted a really nice keyboard, and that's going to cost you a few mm. Still they probably could've done that and still kept it under 17mm. Width is perfect, and I like a little more height.

The size of the N900 doesn't bother me, what bothers me is the thickness.
I wish it would be the thickness of the Iphone 3GS. Than it would be the end of iphone i guess. What i see of maemo 5 is the best OS in multitasking, and the closest you can get to internet on a laptop untill now. Symbian has ended on smartphones.

good point. With the iPhone and Palm Pre both using the ARM Cortex A8 and having battery issues… I am a bit worried. I guess we will have to wait until October and have some real world reports on the battery life before any final judgement.

Not at all. I was comfortable with the N92 which is almost the exact size of the N900 6mm thicker.

Definitely don't mind the lump if the device delivers.

@zenguppy34 – the ARM Cortex A8 in particular is far more power efficient than the ARM11 in the N97. I'd expect the LCD display to use a similar power load, so it doesn't necessarily mean that the N900 will have a shorter battery life than the N97.

I'm not bothered by the dimensions of the N900. I think we need to accept that the more we demand in the phone, the more compromises we'll have to make in terms of the design and size of the phones. The only thing I'm disappointed about is having gotten the N97 about a month and a half ago, I want to jump ship now, so will be watching this and whatever else is announced at Nokia World closely.

My biggest complaint with the N900 is the battery. Its reported to nokia's 1320m and not the 1500m from the previous model. With all the media rich features on the device, I am a bit worried.

Very cool, but what is exactly the Nokia N900? Is it a phone? I mean, it is a media orientated device but can it be compared with the N97, Iphone, etc? Im asking this because I am considering buying a new cellphone for personal use.

It looks awesome to me and more of a direct competitor to the iPhone than anything Nokia have produced so far. I predict this device will sell really well because it can do far more than the iPhone and when people realise this they will go for it. Dimensions and weight don't bother me at all – I don't mind a heavier device when I know that the battery life will more than compensate.

Definitely will need a belt-case for the n900. It's about the same size as a Nokia 6600 candybar phone, but it's an additional 60g heavier. Definitely not pocketable for all occasions.

It should have been as thin as N810, that would've been perfect. But it has 25% more volume than N97 that was barely pocket friendly, and to make it worse it's 30g heavier…

I don't think that with current technologies wasn't possible to make it at least thinner… Even most new WinMo phones (usually chunkier) are slimmer and/or smaller than N900.

Size is not a problem is people realize what this device actually is. Its a internet tablet with phone capabilities not the other way around. For what it is its amazing. Honestly I want one but could care less if its a phone or not. Probably just use mine as my everyday device and keep a N79 as my standalone phone. As we all know, its not the size that matters its how you use it.
