Video: Opera Mini 5 on Nokia 5530 & Nokia N97

Opera Mini 5 Beta is out now and I installed it right away to give you a video demo. I use the Nokia 5530 and the Nokia N97 to show the browser’s new features like tabbed browsing, thumbnail bookmarks, and other usability improvements. Go watch it!

You can also watch this video in HD on Youtube.

Opera Mini 5 can be downloaded by going to mini.opera.com/next from your mobile phone. It is compatible with most Nokia phones.

I think it is a great alternative to the default browser because it loads larger pages faster. However, it does not support flash, and there are still bugs to fix. For example, when I slide open the Nokia N97, the on-screen keyboard still shows up. It is still in beta, so I wouldn’t criticize it too much.

I can't totally install it on my Nokia N97. It keeps bringing the message "No working network detected" each time I tried to use it to browse. I've tried to install and reinstall several times. It's the same message at the same point. Can somebody out tell me what the problem is?

It's ok on the N97. The problem is that the touch keypad cannot be turned off. Would love to lose it for more viewing space since the N97 has the qwerty.

Thanks for video. Hopes Nokia is currently developing new UI browser to be on par with this opera mini 5

Nice video. Installed this on my N95-4 on the way into work this morning and have been pretty impressed so far. Opera Mini has really come a long way since I first installed it 3 or so years ago. It was useful to see this operating on a 5th edition device as I am toying with the idea of purchasing such a device in the near future.
  • I'd like to see Nokia allow Opera to replace their browser as the default on the device.

As Nokia becomes more service oriented, maybe they should develop a proxy browser similar to Opera. A nice third way between Opera Mini and Skyfire in native S60 and we might be in business.
  • i like that idea! Maybe make it an option within the default browser instead of making a new one.
  • That looks a hell of a lot better on S60 5th Edition than it does on 3rd Edition devices. I mean seriously, wow.
