What mobile computing means to me is the ability to manage my "digital persona" anywhere, and at any time. It is the ability to keep up with all of my professional and personal commitments without having to miss the magical moments that come from being a new father. It's the ability to post to the world my son's beautiful smile in between spreadsheets and project milestones...and also the ability to see him laugh any time, anywhere. Mobile computing lets me live my life the way I want to.

Hello there!

I just decided to participate and share my feelings about mobile computing. To me it means quite a many things. A good mobile device can be my assistant, my friend, my news reporter, my entertainer and much more.

I've been living side by side with mobile computers for a while now and I've seen the many colorful sides of it.

Reminding me:
Telling me to go to a meeting or to donate blood. Telling me to buy a birthday gift for a friend. Telling me the upcoming occasions that I may have forgotten as time passes by.

Capturing and sharing the moments to remember:
Having the important moments of my life captured in photos and videos, organised and easy to find after many years, whenever I want to get back to those moments. Happy to see the good old days again with a friend who tragically died a few years ago or the first pictures of me with my girl. Posting my favorite pics and videos to Youtube and Facebook.

Getting me there while I'm elsewhere:
Seeing my brother's newborn son or my girlfriend that still lives in a different city via a video call. Sometimes a normal phone call just isn' enough.

Helping me run my errands:
Using my bank account to pay bills, reserving concert tickets, checking my mail and composing job applications.

Having my office with me:
Handling mail attachments and viewing/editing documents and sheets. And even writing this =)

Keeping in touch:
Calling, texting and sending mms to my friends and family. Staying online via messenger and facebook.
Maybe I should check out Twitter too, since it's become so popular...

Entertaining me:
Playing games, watching movies, listening to songs.

Helping me to be creative and to capture my inspirations:
Recording new song ideas. Even trying them on the go with multitracker software and sharing them with band members right away. Sketching art for various projects. Uploading my work to Evernote, so I can access it anywhere I need to.

Telling me what's going on in the world:
Reading news, blogs, comics and much more. Even PDF:s. Watching news videos on youtube and other services. Reading my favorite RSS-feeds. Checking train schedules and weather.

Guiding me to my destinations:
Using GPS to go where I want to. I'll never get lost again! Google maps' satellitw view is great for jogging paths which are not on the street view. I moved here a year ago and I almost got badly lost on those paths, but Google maps saved me =)

Communities:
I like to keep track of mobile computing communities. A bit geeky, but that's the reason I'm writing this. Also viewing and writing on music forums.

All those little things to make life easier:
Everything various stuff to help me, like converting units, using the device as a remote control for my TV or PC, using it as a flashlight, a bar code and contact card scanner. Oh, and of course using it as a mass storage device, I really don't need a USB memorystick...

There's still so much more things that I do with my devices but I just can't remember just now...

One thing that I have noticed is that if you treat your device right, it will pay off sooner or later. Big time!
There's so many things that I would have missed without my little helper =) Device's personalisation is also cool!
Mobile computing has become more important to me than my PC, I barely use 2 hours on my PC in a full week!

I bet that many people here feel the same.

Greetings from Finland!

-Jukka

MOBILE COMPUTING IS A STUNNING AND FASCINATING TECHNOLOGY WHERE CONVENIENCE AND PORTABILITY PERFORMS AT ITS BEST. IT'S AN EXPERIENCE THAT IS REMARKABLE WHERE GETTING CONNECTED WITH PEOPLE WHO MATTERS IN OUR LIFE IS JUST A TOUCH AWAY. IT IS THE LUXURY AND EASE OF EXPLORING AND LEARNING ABOUT THE WORLD AND ITS IMPOSING AND EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENINGS. ITS THE IMPRESSIVE AND ASTOUNDING CHANCE TO BE WHAT OUR INNER WHIMS, THOUGHTS AND DESIRES WANTS US TO BE.
MOBILE COMPUTING IS THE LEADING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY THAT HAS AN EXCEPTIONAL AND SUBSTANTIAL IMPACT IN OUR LIVES, WHERE CONNECTING PEOPLE, ONLINE AS IT HAPPENS, LIES IN OUR FINGERS

mobile computing to me is i get information i need any time i want and having the ability to share it, like having an idea while you are driving and want information on it right on the spot whatever it is youtube video, Wikipedia article or even photos. And never boot you computer for such things. also push mail and IM's are a necessity. and once you go this way of life you can't get back.

To me mobile computing means I always have a good camera with me where ever I go. It means I will always capture all the good moments in my life when ever it happen unexpectedly. It means three weeks ago when my friends and I are having the best time of our lives at the beach on a full moon night and we said to each other "this is the night to be remembered" and we we're able to capture that moment. It's those special moment that make mobile computing worthwhile to me.

I was born in the country of Ukraine, and lived in the czeck Republic for 7 years, but now I live in the United States and I constantly have to interact with my sister that helps take care of my parents, It is crucial that i send her information on supplements, hospitals, and interact with my paranets as I only get to see them once year, but I also like interacting with my buddies via facebook, myspace and twitter, and read company emails, send my wife ideas of where to eat out at. (the oppertunity to watch youtube videos like the nokia blog's series videos).Add all this plus the n97's mobile computing capabilities and you get a life & schedule that just becomes smoother and becomes part of you, and lets your life flow. Nokia N97 would truly part of me because I need a sleek, phone with a european style that does what I want it to do, unlike the iphone wich is too mainstream and overated. These mobile computing capabilities mean to me that i can combine work & play on such an outstanding device in order for life to flow.

Mobile computing, to me, is freedom. It is the ability to be in touch with the world, anywhere in the world. It is the ability to do multiple actions, without using multiple devices. It is for the busybody within all of us, not wanting to be limited to wires on this computer, or the size of that desktop. Mobile computing is the future, telling the world, "I will check my email while I am miles away from my room." Mobile computing is everything I do with my laptop, iPod, TV and game console in one compact device expressing who I am.

I am sorry to say, but mobile computing doesn't mean much to me because i don't have a chance to use it. But if i did use it, it would mean staying in touch with my friends and family when i am away from home. See them through the camera whenever i want. Ability to go online when im on the college, and not have to go to internet cafe. And most important to finally replace my 4 years old nokia 6030 who is slowly failing.

Sorry for my bad English, it's my third language :)

will it means to me to be not restricted to a specific place to do any task any more, I can be in the airport updating my blogs, in a coffe-shop preparing my presentation, being more productive in general in a much faster way than ever before. In other words freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want.

To me mobile computing is simply, carring my day today Activities,Connections,Life Events,Conversations and Social Activities in my Pocket. So whenever I'm in need I'm connected with the whole world to share, learn and serve.
More briefly it makes the concept "Life in the Pocket" a reality to me.

Mobile Computing for me is the experience of making things possible with the touch of fingers. It is the ease and luxury of being able to cope with the demands of personal and professional fullfillment, the convenience of seeing the latest news, trends, music and happenings. Its the chance to see a world thousand miles away, yet quite near to marvel and capture. Mobile Computing is an innovation, it is an art, it is also a passion and even a fashion. It can be whatever your thoughts or imagination would lead you. Mobile Computing is the present and could be the future. It is an answer yet could constitute to a lot of questions. Mobile Computing for me, is the ultimate escape from all the hassles and downturns which life can provide. Mobile Computing is my life...

It is quite simply the freedom to no longer be tethered to a piece of machinery that over time becomes your master. Instead, you have the ability to use the technology where you are, and when done properly integrates with your life as seamlessly as possible.
