Nokia 7705 Twist Available at Verizon Sept. 13th

Featuring a unique square shape that swivels for a Qwerty keypad, Nokia just announced the Nokia 7705 Twist will be available at Verizon Wireless online store beginning September 13th and physical stores on the 21st. It also has a 3mp camera, 2.4in screen, and runs a custom Verizon Wireless UI.

No Carrier Customizations For Nokia N900 [Update]

David Rivas, Nokia’s vice president for devices R&D, told Reuters that Nokia plans to skip operator tailoring for Linux Maemo phones like the upcoming Nokia N900. Analysts say Nokia cannot afford to do this and risks refusal of the carriers to offer the device.

The Nokia 5530 Xpressmusic arrived at The Nokia Blog for review. It’s the same device that was uncovered from Nokia Conversations’ Pass the Parcel game. Briefly, its got a 2.9in touchscreen, runs on S60v5, 4GB microSD card included, contacts carousel in the homescreen, and no support for 3G. That’s enough specs for now. Check the photos.

One of the things shown off at Nokia World was the Booklet 3G, a Windows-based mini laptop with up to 12 hours of battery, 10.1in display, built-in SIM slot, A-GPS, front-facing camera, and more. I bumped into Brett Butterfield, CEO and founder of Pixelpipe during the first day of Nokia World. I told him I love the service and have been using it frequently with my Nokia phones. I also told him that I had my hands on the Nokia N900 and hope that Pixelpipe works on it. I was in luck. He asked permission from Nokia then got the green light to demo it for The Nokia Blog!

Nokia N97 Firmware 2.0 Video Overview

I asked a Nokia spokesperson at Nokia World to show me the new firmware 2.0 on the Nokia N97. It will feature usability enhancement, additional widgets, updated Facebook app, increased free internal memory, as well as stability improvements. The firmware is going to be available in Software Update this October.

New from Beta Labs: Ovi Lifecasting, Ovi Maps, Ovi Communities

Right after the Nokia World keynote this morning, Nokia Beta Labs put out three new apps for the Nokia N97. First, Ovi Maps, an update to Nokia Maps. Then Lifecasting and Communities, social location focused applications with a heavy focus on Facebook.
