Hey Mark,

Here's my take on each of your items:

Change clock type to digital….. NO! I LOVE the analog clock…. I get more of a “feel” for the time rather than an exact number. I've always preferred Analog clocks to digital, functionality wise. Looks a lot classier to me, as well.

Turn off key tones…..YES! Can't stand key tones.

Turn off Warning Tones. NO….. I like the beep when sudden stops happen and I don't mind the camera sound…. I mean, I'm not taking upskirt shots! I do, however, eventually get around to changing the camera tone to “Tone 4″ which is a BEEP as I recall.

Auto Time Update……YES! However, my method is a bit different than yours. I always set the “approximate” time at startup, as well as the date….but MOST IMPORTANTLY–ALWAYS set the correct country / timezone. I had a problem once with calendar entries being changed or altered because they detected a change of time zone because I skipped the “country” step thinking I would do it later out of laziness….long story) but I promised myself at the time to enter a time and date, something within the hour, to avoid that catastrophe again.

Hide Security Warnings…..NOPE. I'd rather know if anything strange is up. Let's me know things I might have to address.

In addition, I would also say that this list, for the most part, doesn't necessarily represent the five FIRST things I do…. There are quite a few other settings that I address at the same time. Basically all of the basic phone O/S stuff that we all know so well. Still, I see where you're coming from on your list.

Mark, you're using the N97 for few months already. Do you have any problem with it? Like freezing, shut off by itself, etc? Because I'm planning to buy one. I've read so many negative feedbacks about the OS. In fairness to Nokia, I have 4 Nseries phones and I never had a problem so far. Do you think it's how the user takes care of his phone or the problem is with the N97(OS, etc)?

I do most of the similar things for the most part. It'll be good if the setup wizard actually takes you to the profile settings for warning tones, key pad tones, power saver time out, display brightness etc when you start up the phone for the first time.

the first thing I did, well, it was have updated the firmware of my N95 8GB, the second one, was have gotten the CER and KEY for hac_king my lovely symbian, 'cause it's annoying when you are unable to install some apps because of the certificate is too old or the app is unsigned

Anyway, I love the CPU and 3D graphic chip and the multimedia keys of my N95 8GB

- change font size to small (display settings)
- change lock code (security settings)
- turn off show call duration and after call summary
- turn off recently visited pages (web browser settings)
- turn off key tones (profile)

I do more or less the same. with the addition of turning off the auto keypad lock and changing the backlight timeout from 15sec to 30sec. There is no way to turn off the shutter sound on the N82 except by hacking and I do this too. Also I also apply another hack to remove the empty calender, search and and Ovi share shortcuts from the screen, hate teh clutter

I'm pretty much with you. Always change the screen brightness, ringtones, clocks, themes, and font sizes. Anything that's basically going to be a battery drainer gets changed immediately.

i generally switch of the key tones warning tones, select gsm onl;y if using 2g sim and 3g only with my 3g sim, prioritize the access points, and yup get all my data via ovi sync…

dont know if this just a case with the nokia phones i've had (N95 8GB, N96, N97), but the one thing i always do is switch off the power saving feature with regards to the WLAN (Wifi) connection.. Especially on my N96, i cudn't connect to any pages until i knocked it off… After that it was wifi was working like a charm!

I do the same thing, except I've been leaving the analog clock on the N97 home screen, as digital shows up through out most apps. Also, I've been turning on the touch screen vibration when turning off the keypad/touchpad sounds.

Turn the display brightness all the way up to max. Turn off auto-keylock. Turn off Decline call with msg.
