Nokia N900 Tip: Use Backspace To Go Previous Page on Web Browser Faster

Every web browser I use, pressing the back button loads the previous page. The one on the Nokia N900 is different by showing my recent history instead. That means click, wait for list to load, then another click to go back to the previous page. I don’t like it. If you feel the same way, a workaround is to press the backspace on the keyboard to load the previous page bypassing the history list.

Pressing the back button loads the history list

I don’t think the history list should appear when pressing the back button on the Nokia N900 web browser. I recommend making it available as another option like a long-press in Safari, or a drop-down in Firefox. Do you agree?

  1. I absolutely agree. Having to wait for the history to load is pretty annoying.

  2. what are Mbt shoes? do Mbt m walk shoes and Mbt lami shoes really work?

  3. never understood the point of said “feature”, as when i encounter it on desktop browsers its usually when trying to edit a text box, and the focus have changed for some reason. End result, the page changing and maybe loosing the content of said text box…

  4. Not sure why there's no “back” option in the long-press context menu as it is, really. Seems a simple and desirable thing.

  5. Real browsers caches couple of last pages and when going back on history those pages load immediately. I don't see why anyone would like to reload the page from server when going back.

  10. This feature appeared to be paying homeage to the Symbian browser, where the back key has the similar kind of way of working.

I however never use the back icon on the screen, but instead I use backspace on the keyboard. Whenever I browse, I always have the keyboard out. So not much of a change for me.
