This feature appeared to be paying homeage to the Symbian browser, where the back key has the similar kind of way of working.

I however never use the back icon on the screen, but instead I use backspace on the keyboard. Whenever I browse, I always have the keyboard out. So not much of a change for me.

Real browsers caches couple of last pages and when going back on history those pages load immediately. I don't see why anyone would like to reload the page from server when going back.

Not sure why there's no “back” option in the long-press context menu as it is, really. Seems a simple and desirable thing.

never understood the point of said “feature”, as when i encounter it on desktop browsers its usually when trying to edit a text box, and the focus have changed for some reason. End result, the page changing and maybe loosing the content of said text box…

I absolutely agree. Having to wait for the history to load is pretty annoying.
