This is not a recommended method of installing applications on the Nokia N900, but follow this guide if you receive an app as a .deb file from a trusted developer. This is a fast and easy way to install from a file using the red pill mode on the Nokia N900.
Nokia Multimedia Transfer 1.4.2 Adds Support for Nokia N900
Nokia Multimedia Transfer (NMT) for Mac was updated on Thursday to version 1.4.2. It adds support for the Maemo device, Nokia N900. If you are unfamiliar with the application, NMT enables you to transfer pictures, videos, music, and files between your Nokia mobile device and Mac.

GPS Lock Taking Too Long? Try Google Location Server supl.google.com
If you’re waiting too long for a GPS lock, try the location server supl.google.com instead. When I was using the Nokia N900 in Amsterdam, I was able to geotag photos in seconds. I became very suspicious when I came back in the US and it took much longer. I shrugged it off until a tip from the Maemo community suggested to replace Nokia’s location server with Google. I’m happy to report that I now get a GPS lock in seconds!
Witter For Nokia N900 Updated to 0.1.1-9 – Twitter App Steadily Improving
Daniel Would is developing a Twitter app for the Nokia N900 named Witter that is steadily improving at each update. It’s still in early development, but Witter is already very functional. You can tweet, reply, retweet, and Twitpic in addition to viewing the timeline, mentions, trends, and direct messages.
Nokia N900 Tip: Use Backspace To Go Previous Page on Web Browser Faster
Every web browser I use, pressing the back button loads the previous page. The one on the Nokia N900 is different by showing my recent history instead. That means click, wait for list to load, then another click to go back to the previous page. I don’t like it. If you feel the same way, a workaround is to press the backspace on the keyboard to load the previous page bypassing the history list.
Nokia Messaging for Social Networks Beta2 App Review
I’ve been using the second beta to Nokia Messaging for Social Networks the weekend before today’s official announcement. If you need a reminder, the first beta was released at Nokia World, supporting only Facebook. The new version adds new options for Facebook and adds support for Twitter. Nokia 5235 Gets Added to Touchscreen Devices Lineup
It’s all about choices right? Nokia adds yet another touchscreen device called the Nokia 5235. It is supposed to be a successor to the recently released 5230. It features Comes With Music, 3.2 inch touchscreen, 2 megapixel camera, and more. For more details, check out the full specifications.
Ovi Store For Nokia N900 Not Open Yet But Maemo Community Finds a Way In
Nokia is still running internal tests on the Ovi Store for the Nokia N900 before it opens for the public, but that doesn’t stop the Maemo community from finding a way to gain access. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I followed the instructions to install some of the apps on my Nokia N900.
Nokia To Close NY and Chicago Flagship Stores Early 2010
A Nokia spokesperson just told us that the NY and Chicago flagship stores are closing in early 2010. The official decision was made to “create clear alignment with our local market strategy and in addition, as part of a global realignment of Nokia’s retail strategy.” The Flagship stores opened their doors in 2006.
