I too went from the G1 to the N900, and get similar results from those tests. I found a better test at my3gspeed.com. Very similar results to speedtest.net. I am in Austin, FWIW.

What data plan are you provisioned for? I'm not sure if it makes any difference but I moved from G1 to N900 and never changed my data plan to "Smart Phone". Do you know if Android plans may be throttled in any way? If I go to mobilespeedtest.com I get 2.5 Mb/s with 3 MB file test. On Speedtest.net I only max out at 1 Mb/s.

Getting 0.52Mb/s down & 0.55Mb/s up in Silicon Valley's golden triangle and the phone indicating “3.5G”. :-p

@Mark Guim – If I go into settings -> Internet Connections -> “Connections” button -> select “T-Mobile Internet”, then “Edit” button -> Connection Type: GPRS, press “Next” button -> Access point name: is set to “epc.tmobile.com”
Do you have anything different in this field? Just wondering if I buggered up the network settings?

This is consistent with what I have gotten for the last few days, so I would say rollout hasn't hit ATX

I just tested on my Road Runner cable service, and the N900 had 8.49Mb/s download. This varies a lot though when I retest. (.44Mb/s upload).

Yeah, my speeds are pathetic here in Phoenix, AZ.

My results with T-Mobile on my Nokia N900 in Phoenix:

Speedtest.net using local server (average out of 3 tests)..

Both 3G and 3.5G: latency - 389ms
download speed - 0.97 Mbps
upload speed - 0.22 Mbps

For comparison, via my Wi-Fi on a 12 Mbps connection from Qwest transmitted on a "N" router. Phone 12 inches away from router:

latency - 67ms
download speed - 5.8 Mbps
upload speed - 0.8 Mbps

I have never seen anything over 6 Mbps over Wi-Fi on the N900, however I can easily hit 11.5-12Mbps on my PC. Makes me think that the N900 can't handle the speed??!! I digress. My 3G and 3.5G speeds are pathetic here.

I tested it in Austin, Tx today with poor results–same speed I always get. about .85Mb/s download, .15Mb/s up.
