Nokia N900 Trailing in the 2009 Engadget Awards

There’s still plenty of time, but after 4 days of voting, the Nokia N900 is losing badly to the iPhone 3GS in 2 categories of the 2009 Engadget Awards. Do you think the N900 is worthy to grab the titles Smartphone of the Year or Gadget of the Year? Vote now!

Nokia also snagged a nomination for the Booklet 3G in the Netbook of the Year category. I think they should win all the 3 categories, but this fanboy and Nokia blogger may be biased. You can vote until February 20th 11:59PM EDT.

  • iphones i just pure marketing,is a fancy en very nice phone i got it,but nothing compare with any nokia smartphone....but the fact is iphone is in everyones mind....even here mark listed n900 is losing badly to the iPhone 3GS in 2 categories of the 2009....and you can see others phone are in top of n900 and iphone 3gs....so dont get me wrong n900 beat the f***giphone 3gs but this kind of competitionoas are not fair at all...like somebody said here is forapple fanboy....bye

That's a US's nominations, award... whatever, what expectation do you have about?
  • is apple.com and engadet.com are one? XD
  • nevermind, Nokia.most of the votes are from the US, which means that iphone will ge more votes, atleast for a few years.those who dont understand the capabilities of nokia's smartphones are in a nutshell !
  • N900 is near-perfect and the gap will be bridged with maemo6, which will be the best mobile platform alongside symbian. the fact that iphone 3gs has higher votes is because of its popularity and the sense of the visitors voting, who definitely have an ill knowledge of the n900.i eally hate those hyping strategies of apple that makes people feel the iphone is the god-phone.the fact is that its good for nothing compared to n900 and has a poor market penetration compared to nokia's.

i'm not surprised the nokia n900 is trailing. not the fact that its a bad phone, which it is not, but because its not marketed all over tv like the iphone was. this is a popularity contest, similar to how people were class president in high school. or even higher than that *cough, cough*

You cant run against those army of pussy apple fun boys)).And the big Apple marketing behind it. I know that N900 is the best not because i own one but because its true. I made my own research before i bought phone. Friend of mine have an Iphone and he was surprise to see that theres such thing as N900 and all those capabilities that this device has. Poor guy paying 150 buck for his service for ATT when i have same with Tmo for just $60 not even mentioning unlimited internet and tether (ATT limit 5GB). Thats what makes different between real open source and fonny one that apple has. And people so dumb that they r buying. Well i guess they r deserved it. Oh and btw i asked him about web browsing he told me thats slow. I know its partially because ATT sucks and cant provide decent service. Thats what u get when ur "blind" and i would say good for them )))))

tmobile has the 5gb cap too. not sure about the 3g+ though

to be honest the N900 has no chance on getting top marks on Engadget because like some one else said on here they are apple fanboys on there and it's been that way as far back as I can remember, I mean they compared a iPhone 3gs with no flash in the browser against Android phones both which have flash enabled and said the iPhone browser beat them at loading web content hands down, which is absolutely a ridiculous comparison with a phone that doesn't even multitask at all
  • skot
it so true what you said ...the figures are so high for apple iphones so high only because of nokia fanboys ....anyway n900 is not a phone
  • The thing is...are people voting based on expereince with all such devices, actually knowing which is the best hence deserves their vote?

Or are they voting for what they have and know, what is popular and cool?

    Likely the latter.

Most of those who have voted, will have never tried the competing devices, so really such a compeition and it's result is worthless.

    Those who know better...know better.

welcome to Apple..uhhhh I mean Engadget......

    .
Too many apple fanboys voting over there, but, I'd like to see the readership for this site tilt the scales in the n900's favor

Meh. Like it matters. Another myopic American website that can't see beyond the iPhone, what else is new?

i love the n900 bc i have a geek side and lots of patience while nokia and programers improve the phone and write new programs for it. at this moment, there is no way that the n900 could compete for phone of the year bc its not ready for the mass market, too many glitches and things to iron out. in a few weeks, months this will become a much better device...a work in progress
