Maemo released the latest SDK for developers on Monday and MohammadAG from the forums uploaded some screenshots that gives us an idea of what’s to come in the next major update for the Nokia N900. We’re not sure when the update will be available to everyone, but at least we know some of the things to look forward to.

How about adding the feature to access to the GAL using Company Directory for MfE? This is something I miss greatly from Symbian devices.

YES! New on screen keyboard layout just like I wanted.
YES! Back button actually goes back rather than bringing up the history, just like I wanted.

I can hardly wait for this to hit my N900.

you can in a roundabout way – contacts -> Get contacts -> Import Mail Exch. contacts then type the name of the person and it'll retrieve the contacts details from the exchange server

WOW. Thanks!!! Now all we need is the ability to group contacts so I can keep personal and business separate.

Will be there some firmware to use 3G with band 850 Hz?

  • http://thenokiablog.com Mark Guim

    i don't think that's possible through a firmware update

I wonder if the browser has a newer javascript engine (Tracemonkey). Firefox has it, so hopefully they have implemeted it in MicroB too.

The Nokia N900 is a mobile Internet device and smartphone, from Nokia based on the Maemo platform, superseding the N810. It runs Maemo 5 Linux as its default operating system and is the first Nokia device based upon the TI OMAP3 microprocessor with the ARM Cortex-A8 core.

This is all very nice, but I still miss two very common and simple functionalities, I used to have in my very old Nokia phones:
    1. Sending MMS (pictures), without all the hastle of fAPNs, network connections, and stuff, just plain sending pictures, like I used to do.
    2. Grouping contacts and giving them a unique ringtone.

Not sure why these two basics were neglected like that.

    That was my question too

A browser back button that actually goes back. You gotta love it. I was getting so frustrated and this was one of my biggest complaints.

  • Ayesha

what about being able to send files (photos, voice file, video) etc via IM? that's a must for me as I'm constantly sharing files with the people I chat with.
Secondly I'd love it if MMS could work more efficiently, and the ability to add more than one file in one MMS, my E71 used to do that.

Love the n900! thanks for making improvements. :) can't wait to try them out!

Usually I am impressed but seeing as it’s nokia…nope. They love to skimp and only make a jump once in a while, good for them in terms of money bad for us as we are stuck with the same rubbish for years!
